Germany make the best bank cards.
Loved the N26 one
Zing have relaunched their referral scheme today with slightly different criteria, so I have updated my first post.
Specifically directed towards foreign usage this time, I see.
Looks like they could convert £5 to EUR and send It to Starling/Revolut/Wise to meet the criteria. Potentially the same £5 if they send it back and out again.
If anyone is still looking for a referral…

Has anyone transferred money in another currency using Zing?
How was the experience?
I did, and I have found something awkward.
The money I sent did not reach the other bank as had been shown in Zing app. It is less than what was supposed to reach there. Even with the other bank charges added on, it is still about £5 less.
The other bank say what I see in the app is what I received. They show the amount received and their charges on separate entries as they do with other transfers like those from Wise.
I have just contacted Zing via chat now waiting to see what they tell me.
Could it be due to the currency route?
Edit:
For this reason, Wise will remain the king.
How do these guyd expect customers to know third party fees. No customer deals with the third parties. The people who deal with them claim not to know the fees.
I transferred Zing to Bankera no issues and fairly quick.
Converted to EUR first then transferred.
Yeah I sent several hundred euros to a bank in Greece recently. Converted in zing and made the payment from the Euro wallet. It went through fine and the receiver has confirmed receipt of the full amount sent.
Was the other person receiving Euros too? My case involved conversion from GBP to a currency in Africa.
Wise and other services I have used do it so well and transparently. What they tell you to be received, is what the person receives.
Not getting shocks after the transaction.
I was doing EUR in Zing to EUR in Lithuania i.e. no conversion. Outside Europe, the default looks like Swift which is expensive. Wise would be better though I’ve only sent to America, not Africa.
Right, yes my payment was in euros and received in euros, no conversion. Sounds like wise gives more confidence in the actual amount that will be received when there is a conversion and swift payment. I’ve not tried that with zing yet.
Within Europe, it should use SEPA which should have the same charge as a same country transfer (except for currency conversion charges).
Outside Europe, I think Wise is the way to go as they generally do local transfers for you. I’d use them to do the currency conversion first as you know where you stand then.
Yes Wise is miles ahead. Like on this particular test transaction, Zing seemed a few pence cheaper until the hidden unexplained charges.
Other services like Western Union, Monegram, WorldRemit show you the final amount the person will receive and that is what happens.
No funny explanations in the end.
On this very transaction, I was out of pocket by £5 than if I had used Wise, Monegram, Western Union or Worldremit.
Good it was only their £20 referral fee. Imagine 25% gone just like that.
If it was made clear before transaction, of course I would have bought a burger in that £5 than give it away.
I have sent with Wise to China, Germany, USA, Africa and have not had anything unusual being charged after confirmation of transaction.
I thought Zing would be a back up in those moments Wise closes some currency routes temporarily, but that seems to be out of the options for now.
It’s remarkable how successful Wise had been. They saw an opportunity and took full advantage, real innovation that has been great for customers. I wonderful about the aims of outfits like zing, do they only ever hope to take a small share of the market or are they planning to become a serious competitor, in which case they will have to do some things better.

Zing referral part 2. Invite extended, guessing it didn’t go as well as Chase’s.

Given all this feedback, doesn’t seem to add anything to my Wise / HSBC Global Money combo other than a shiny card - I’ve got an unused Kroo card for that
