To be honest, I wonder about whether all that is oft reported is truly representative of the actual facts. You only have to read reviews on TP as an example, of people who will post things, which on the face of it, look utterly ludicrous, but there are far more reviews which are entirely positive.
I know people who despite their personal phones being capable of running the latest iOS, won’t update citing a variety of reasons. These are the same people who moan when their bank stops supporting a particular iOS and they still won’t update.
I suppose there may well be people who have had issues, which I guess is unfortunate.
Just been having a chat with one of my colleagues about iOS 18. He just showed me he’s on iOS 15 and says he can’t be bothered to update his phone
I also noticed after he showed me in his settings, his carrier settings are at 54.0 whereas mine is at 59. From what I’ve read, it’s apparently quite important to make sure the phones carrier settings are up to date as it allows the phone to behave more effectively with the service provider. I wonder then if this is perhaps a reason why some users complain they aren’t getting OTP’s.
SMS are sent via the signalling channels so don’t really need settings - it’s far more likely that block of numbers that Spusu were allocated were not fully registered with them being a tiny and new MVNO.
I think it’s better if the MVNOs use the MNOs number allocations. A friend had a Vectone number and had continual problems when she ported it to Three. Incoming texts often didn’t arrive and income voice calls also often failed. It’ got to the point that Three just allocated her one of their gold numbers for free to replace the Vectone one.
So I’m now all in proper with SPUSU. I ended my rolling contract with Lebara and I started another Spusu rolling contract in addition to the initial Spusu contract that I started purely as a tester for 5G where I live. I took out a 20GB rolling contract for £6.90 a month via Money supermarket.Com. Like the initial Spusu contract, I chose the Esim over a physical SIM.
I decided to keep my number that I had with Lebara because I’d previously ported that from Vodafone and so have now ported that to Spusu. The porting went without a hitch on the day selected. The only thing I had to do was to reset my network settings on my iPhone to update the Esim to show my ported number in my phone settings.
I’m getting all of my notifications including OTPs. Spusu customer service is excellent. I don’t get any extras with the contract but that isn’t what I’m with SPUSU for anyway. I just wanted a decent reliable 5G signal via the EE network for a much cheaper price than I’d pay with EE. The other sweetener is, I’ve earned £10 via Money supermarket for using their links.
