Royal Bank of Scotland accounts

So if next time I’m in the office I pop in to Drummonds, I could open an account & ask for a branded card? Or would they just tell me to b….r off?

I think you can!

You may have to make an appointment to go through the process, though - so it could take two visits!

I’ll put a nice shirt & tie on next time I’m in London; pop in during lunch, and ask nicely. I’ll probably be honest about my reason for applying, too. Will then report back!

Just turn up with a few bin bags of cash and you’ll do fine

Or suitcases. Oh, hang on. Those are for someone else :grimacing:

It’s always such a bother when you mix up your holdalls full of cash, isn’t it?!

Back when I got my first current account with Natwest you could ask for either a light or a dark version of the card. Totally plausible there is a profile option which gives branch staff the opportunity to nominate you for a different card.

As long as the bin bags are very small and very strong I could manage a few bin bags of 2p coins. That gives me the largest volume per £, right?

Why not go for 1p coins instead, for maximum pain in the ar*e effort vs monetary value ratio?!

Looks like still able to get child & co even tho branch is closed applied for my new account on Saturday

Yes, they said the branch was going, not the brand. Do you hold any other RBS accounts, just out of interest?

I switched out a select account the other month and had a Digital regular saver account with them still

Was your Digital Regular Saver on the 15-80-00 sort code, or just a regular RBS sort code?

It may make a difference if you are an existing Child & Co customer or not.

No saver is 16-28-17 it gave me the option on the mobile application form to select a branch via sort code or postcode

Ah yes, apparently the “old form” is accessible as standard via the app! I read that on MSE.

Did the branch come up as “, , EC4Y 1AU”?

Apparently they’ve removed the reference to the actual branch title, which has resulted in speculation that they intend to shut the sort code to new applicants shortly.

Personally, I do expect the ability to open new Child & Co accounts to continue, at least for existing customers on the sort code, for a while. But they may restrict access to brand-new customers. They probably want to make it “private only” for new customers, all on the 16-00-80 sort code.

Is it? When I go to apply it takes me to a web form with all my details pre-populated and I’m too scared to proceed in case it does a credit check and just opens another account at the same branch/sort code!

Yes mine was populated with my data already think it was the third screen it asked me where I wanted to open the account

Think it just said child & co when I put in the sort code didn’t take much notice of what address was stated

Do you remember what questions you were asked? Income, etc?

Might try for the ‘other’ sort code then  I want the elusive Drummonds card, but there’s a chance I’ll just get the beach hut.

I wonder if I end up with beach hut then go into branch and ask suuuuper nicely, would they reissue me a different card?
