I use Wise for personal spending here in the UK and for transferring monies to friends/family. I like it, doesn’t give me any problems.
Have you had a look at it now? I will probably park some money in it for bills when I start working here until they close it. Granted they haven’t yet, so I think I’ll be fine until the next election when I disappear from the electoral register at least
You can swap your Wise account between countries. Wife opened her whilst she was in Australia so they created it as an Australian one but was able to change it to a UK one with an email to them.
China has Wise but it doesn’t have local accounts and cards iirc
Just an update for those who might not be aware, but Spanish bank, Banca March no longer allow fee free withdrawals from their own branded ATMs in Spain/Canary Islands using WISE debit cards. I attempted to make a withdrawal in Euros from their branch in Puerto Del Carmen and it warned me of a €5.50 ATM fee if I withdrew on my WISE debit card. I declined.
It’s a shame because I withdrew cash from one of their ATM’s in Tenerife fee free last year, but they’ve obviously since cottoned on to it and now levy the fee.
Looks like the only foolproof route is Charles Schwab as it refunds all fees charged.
To be fair, as a very new customer to Santander UK, I subsequently used my Santander everyday account debit card at a Banco Santander ATM at the same resort with zero ATM fees and exchanged at the mid market rate of €1.1526, so no complaints from me whatsoever. I’ll be using my Santander debit card whenever I visit Spain in the future for ATM withdrawals from Banco Santander 
Then you end up with currency risk though… which also sucks
It’s free across all of their group in countries they operate in, however. Which is nice.
Interestingly, I tried various cards in France, all of which wanted a €6 fee, but Wise seemed to work where others - including Euro denominated accounts like Bunq - did not
I know, but I’ve generally a bunch of money in the dealing account and rarely need cash, so it should do the biz for me.
For someone who absolutely doesn’t use physical cash at all in the UK, I’ve been chucking it about all over the place in Spain 
I’m loving all these fee free Santander ATM cash withdrawals at the same rates as I’d pay if I used my Chase debit card.
