Amazon Barclaycard

https://www.amazon.co.uk/test/dp/B0BH98211K

Doesn’t let me apply yet, but I’d be ineligible on account of holding an existing Barclaycard.

£50 reward for signing up
1% at Amazon, 0.25% elsewhere
(boosted to 2%/1% for first 6 months then 1%/0.5% for months 7-12)

4% rewards during “key shopping events like Prime Day”

No annual fee. Rewards payable as Amazon credit in £5 chunks.

Not of interest to me as I normally use gift cards, but not a terrible ongoing offer.

Already hold a Barclaycard but this would still not appeal to me tbh

As confusing as it is.
I already have a Barclaycard anyway

This card has no Apple pay

Indeed. Have Amazon fallen out with Apple or something?

There’s a 2.99% non sterling transaction fee: https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/content/dam/barclaycard/documents/personal/existing-customers/amazon-barclaycard-summary-standard.pdf

Agree the lack of Apple Pay is a deal breaker.

As for Amazon, I don’t love them, but I do use them a lot, so I would consider this card once Apple Pay is sorted (and I’m eligible for it). (For that matter, I’m not a huge fan of barclaycard either!)

I think this card is live now and available for everyone, but the ratings on their own page don’t really sing much praise for them

Seems to be live for me at least.

Can’t really see a reason to get It though as I’m getting 1% everywhere on the Amex and potentially 2% counting the companion voucher. 6 months interest free is about the minimum these days and you can get 19 interest free. So really the only upside is the £20 and you can get that elsewhere too.

I wouldn’t bite at £20. The targeted £50 is worth considering - suspect we might see even higher targetted offers in time. I had £100 once but that might have been from the Business Amex.

In terms of everyday spend, it’s good, but for now Avios (to Nectar) is a better earn rate, and the ‘on Amazon’ rates are easily beaten by strategically buying Amazon gift cards with discounts/cashback - although the 4% ‘during events’ thing could be useful.

One to watch, for me.

They have always had bad ratings even for the old one for Newday.
I had the Newday version and didn’t have major issues apart from low limits.

Another weird Amazon Barclaycard stipulation:
“If you have an Amazon Barclaycard, it’s not possible to add an additional cardholder”

Which side is it demanding these restrictions I wonder?

Amazon I suspect in that I don’t think you can have a joint Prime account.

I’m not sure I understand why that might matter? (You can share your prime benefits with someone in the same household btw.)

You can share, but they seem to be intending to have card offers on the Prime account and I think that would require a joint account.

Why? Credit cards aren’t joint products. I don’t expect to be able to access my wife’s Nectar account because I’ve got an additional card on her Nectar Amex.

Yeah, it is odd when you think about it.
