(I got this as my first ever credit card in my experience this card receives way more offers than every other card I have combined [including plat (the pricey one) and gold])
It’s 100% free, I have around ~20 bank accounts on random fintechs and likewise. I don’t close them because they don’t cost me anything
Just to keep the longest held credit card on your account open?
It’s a charge card so this won’t work well for me I have 1 subscription on it though, but that’s mainly to keep Amex happy.
Suppose the only real advantage is that if I have something I need but don’t have a credit limit for, which isn’t a very good excuse for me as my credit limits are rather high and Amex will happily increase my limits if I ask (I did a financial review a few months ago and they told me they can temp increase my limit to cover very large purchases)
It does cost you the opportunity to get a large sign up bonus on most of their other cards tho, as they require you to not have a personal Amex Card within the last 24 months (I’m ‘going fallow’ at the moment!).
They said they hold multiple cards anyway so literally no impact keeping it open (with Amex. Opening new cards may be more difficult as it’s an additional line of credit).

Yes, except on Amex Plat which is only if you have held a membership points card (I took out an amex plat just to get the points!)
Well it’s a joint cost along with whichever other cards would need to be closed I suppose.
There is no cost at all. It is absolutely 100% free. I do not pay anything at all for this card
New Platinum Card applications now appear to be issued as credit cards rather than charge cards. I changed my Green charge card for the Platinum charge just a few weeks ago.
So it seems with the demise of the Green card the only charge cards available to new cardholders in the UK are the Basic and Business Basic cards.
Got a prompt in a modal on my online account today that I would in future be prompted for digits my card PIN during online checkouts, and true enough the first 3D secure prompt I’ve seen since indeed asked for the second and fourth digit.
Feels retrograde somehow to be validating with PIN, I’m old enough to remember the early online cyber security campaigns where the message was to never share a card PIN over the internet.
More Amex 3D secure weirdness. I’m now seeing a ‘Skip’ button when I’m asked for a 6 digit text/email code. Not sure I can get my head around why you’d offer it at all, surely a fraudster would just skip?
Purely supposition, but while the Green Card had been withdrawn for new applications I would expect it will continue for existing customers.
You can still nominated Green or Gold supplementary card holders be added to an existing Platinum Charge Card account, although not to the new Platinum Credit Card.
