Let the sport begin……
I’m sure the Monzonites are cockahoop!
I don’t know why and it’s probably completely unreasonable of me to have such personal negativity toward Monzo as a bank, but just like Revolut, I’m unlikely to ever consider them as an everyday banking solution.
They long ago took that same view of me.
Truth be told, I’ve never heard of several, probably worthy, winners this year.
I have to admit that I don’t understand the animosity towards Monzo, which is even exhibited by members of the Monzo forum (although many of them have now left for their own forum).
I don’t use them for day-to-day banking (I’m NatWest now) but I still think it’s a decent offering with some impressive in-house technology.
I think my animosity steps almost exclusively from a brief period I had on their forum a few years back. It was utterly toxic, I mean the worst forum I’d ever engaged with and so I left anonymised. I guess that just translated into ‘I’ll never go anywhere near a Monzo account in my life’ frame of mind.
As I sit here and and type, I can honestly state that I don’t truly ‘love’ any bank I currently have a relationship with. I have a Holts (RBS) current account, it’s perfectly ok, but I never really use it for anything other than having my Government pension paid into. Chase, yeah, great, does most things I need it to do and great for travelling. Nationwide, boring old dependable Nationwide, does what I need them to do but boring. Wise, great burner account, a perfect partner for my burner phone, great for online transactions. If Wise were an actual Bank, I’d bin my Nationwide account.
As for the actual British Bank Awards, meh, I definitely could never be bothered to take part in that!
The forum has calmed down a lot recently and it’s now just people talking about cards and banks, mostly. Very little off-topic chit-chat and no snide remarks to new posters.
That’s not what goes on at these things
