Can open banking reshape WooCommerce payments for UK merchants?

The evolution of online payments in the UK is being rapidly shaped by open banking, and WooCommerce merchants are increasingly paying attention. With card processing fees rising and checkout expectations becoming more mobile-first, businesses are looking for ways to make online transactions cheaper, safer, and smoother.

A timely development is NatWest’s Payit™ integration into WooCommerce, allowing small businesses to accept secure, direct account-to-account payments without relying on card networks. This move could change the game for merchants wanting to cut costs and improve settlement speeds.

If you’re wondering how to set up a cost-effective payment gateway on your WooCommerce store, understanding the WooCommerce payment gateway API and local integrations can make a big difference especially for UK merchants balancing user experience with compliance and affordability.

As the UK heads deeper into PSD2 territory, and with variable recurring payments (VRPs) on the horizon, it’s clear that merchants using WooCommerce can’t afford to ignore these shifts. Open banking may no longer be optional it could become the standard.

Let me take a wild guess that you’re employed by…Woo Commerce?

Hi, actually no I am not.

You’re just ‘impressed with their system’ enough to post on a tenuously connected thread?

The flimsiest of research reveals you work for Wonderful Payments

And reading this article reveals

‘That’s where Wonderful’s Woo payment plugin comes in’

Away with your spam

Hi, thanks for your message. I was just wondering what part of my post did you feel was “Spam”? I am simply sharing the latest updates on new developments in the Fintech space.

All of it. You are promoting the work of your company, which is against the rules of this board. And then denying it as well!

Hi, thanks for the reply. Okay, I understand that for some reason you have taken offence to my post. I am aware of the rules of this forum, but getting back to your message, “All of it.” seems a bit vague. Can you please specify which part of my post is promoting or referencing “my” company or its “products or services”? The post is about Open banking, developments in open banking technology (not related to “my” company) and how Open banking can support WooCommerce merchants. Since the post is for WooCommerce merchants and about payment tech, there are references to the WooCommerce payment gateway API and various integrations. Many fintech companies are providing Open banking payment technology like the one I have referenced in the post, which again has nothing to do with “my” company. So really, I see no self-promotion or spam here, and there is nothing for me to deny. WooCommerce is a global platform and Open banking is a new payment technology gaining traction. And I don’t have any further clarifications or justification to provide.

Let’s just establish some facts here. You are employed by(or own) Wonderful Payments ? And amongst the products you offer are Woo Commerce? Sounds like promotion to me. You are ‘impressed’ with your own products? And originally claimed you had nothing to do with them.

Hmmm
