Fineco

So, as it’s Saturday, I thought I’d take stock……

For those here who have set sail on the Good Ship Fineco, who:

  1. Has applied and so far got nothing tangible in return?

  2. Has received a card (and which?)

  3. Has funded their account?

  4. Has made a transaction (and what sort?)

  5. Has successfully setup Apple/ Google Pay/ Curve?

  6. Has lost the will to live?

  7. I’ll try to get out more……:flushed:

For those here who have set sail on the Good Ship Fineco, who

1. Has applied and so far got nothing tangible in return? A card and a verification code, an incomprehensible phone call, and 4 emails.
2. Has received a card (and which?) Yes, a Euro card
3. Has funded their account? Yes. €12 and £0.80p
4. Has made a transaction (and what sort?) Other than paying something in, not yet
5. Has successfully setup Apple/ Google Pay/ Curve? No, no, and yes. The Google Pay is rejected by the bank
6. Has lost the will to live? No - this is a minor irritation in the scheme of things, and was marginally better than my experience with Bunq (that’s not saying much)
7. I’ll try to get out more…… We have the weather for it now

Really useful, @riceuten. I have the GBP card and I’ll be interested to see the interaction back and forth between the currencies now I’ve funded a euro balance too.

This is the really sad bit, for me. The euro world is just so ripe for new tech, but no one seems to have nailed it yet.

Are we just spoiled in the UK fintech-wise?

I think it’s more a “home market” problem. I don’t see starling and monzo getting far in Europe. N26 tried to expand into the UK and had to retrench. Bunq is doing fine in its home market, it seems. From my limited experience of Italian banks (“you can collect your salary at this branch on Tuesdays from 10am to 3pm”), the above is nothing, so perhaps fineco is just good enough to beat the (local) competition.

Guess who just managed to add their card to Apple Pay (…finally!)

The ‘Add to Apple Pay’ button in the Fineco app still wasn’t working, so I tried adding it manually again, going with the LASTNAME FIRSTNAME MIDDL format (with the middle name cut off like it is physically printed on the card, which incidentally was the first variation I tried entering a few days ago as well) and it actually worked this time. I then tried adding it to my Apple Watch, and it threw up the same error as before, so I’ll give that another go in a few days… I guess you’re only allowed so much luck at a time with Fineco :joy:

I wonder if all Fineco account holders sport similar battle scars. I think special recognition is warranted here (for those who make it :flushed:).

Sooooo.

I’m up and running (with a late flurry of CS involvement which, frankly, was most effective).

My Italian hasn’t improved but the chap I spoke to? Well, his English is a credit to him (and no, he’s not English :smirk:).

Job done? Well nearly - still need to set up Apple Pay. That’s for tomorrow.

***** Actually no. I re-read @Lonford’s post above and sure enough, adding manually and using the exact name as on the card…..

I’ve just done the same with the bizarre mangling of my name on the card, so this time it’s worked and Fineco has now been added to my Google Pay repertory of cards. Apple Pay isn’t going to happen as I already have 8 cards on there.

Don’t mean to brag but I’ve now managed to get my Fineco card working with Apple Pay on my watch as well! :tada: Giving it 24 hours and trying again seemed to do the trick - it seems perhaps Fineco has set a limit on how frequently a card can be added

I’ve also added it to Curve, and was pleasantly surprised to find an accurate card image…

Interestingly, Curve also offers a gold variation. The only sign of a gold Fineco card I can find is on their Italian website, and it’s a premium credit card

Something else I find interesting is that for Italian customers, the black card that we all have is actually a credit card, while their debit cards are blue.

Bragging permitted. That last task eludes me (Apple Watch) so knowing it worked for by waiting a day or so, is helpful.

Out of interest, if either of you two have middle names, are they cut short on the card like mine is?

No, but mine is a mere 4 letters, so…

My name just about fits on too!

It’s probably quite common for them to be cut off, but I’m lucky enough not to have that.

Yes, it cut the last 2 letters off. I dare say had I got room and the inclination I could add this to Apple Pay I would use the same format and it would probably work. I will try and add some more cards to Google Pay tonight, as I am wondering if the reason that it rejects around half of them is that the name is not formatted exactly as it is on the card.

I’ve had this problem with Apple Pay before.

It does seem to be the case that you have a better chance of success if you replicate the formatting on the card exactly.

And sure enough, it did. Apple Pay on phone set up.:beers::clinking_glasses:

(That :point_up_2:t2:maybe overdoing it….)
