Yep, will do. Best not to clutter things….
Oops - just noticed an earlier thread - I’ll combine them. Sorry folks.
Oh I’m thick It was me that created the thread in the first place. I’m off to see my trickcyclist.
I can help ….
Here’s one I hadn’t heard of previously, courtesy of Barclays.
W-8BEN Form scam
The W-8BEN form is a legitimate US tax exemption document, however fraudsters have been using the W-8BEN format to get personal details such as mother’s maiden name, passport number, date of birth, PIN numbers and passcodes. The fraudulent forms are being sent under the guise of anti- money laundering regulations claiming to review client information and asking that the form be completed.
Please be advised that we’ll never ask you for your passcode or memorable word in this manner. If you receive such a form do not reply to it.
I’ve just watched that again - frankly, it’s chilling in its impact (and simplicity).
True dis Graham, I once had to attend a course the details of which will remain unheard due to the OSA, during which a trickcyclist was in attendance. She took me to one side and asked me not to come back again. I wasn’t sure if that was some sort of veiled compliment
So true. At risk of sidetracking the topic at hand again (my best talent), I have an unusual recent experience of this.
I accidentally purchased the Dyson Formaldehyde fan thing on Dyson’s website when doing a bit of window shopping to compare prices. Apparently Dyson think proceed means confirm and pay. So I panicked. Cmd+q out of safari when I realised it was processing my order. Phew.
Then I get an email thanking me for my order. So I check PayPal and see the pending charge in PayPal credit. Still processing though, so the value hadn’t been deducted from my credit limit.
Dyson apparently think it’s a good idea to not have a cancel order button on their website. Now I was planning on buying on of these anyway, but was waiting for my Sister’s Argos discount to be bumped up to 15%.
So i panicked. Now a rational person would probably wait until Dyson are open and call to try to cancel. Or refuse delivery. Or ask PayPal Credit to block the transaction. Or suck it up because they were going to buy it anyway. But not me. I made the decision to max out my credit limit on Argos click and collect orders, so there was no money left for Dyson to collect. When Dyson cancelled my order because payment was declined. Subsequently cancelled my Argos orders. Everything ended well. And my sister bought it from Argos a few week’s later for me using her discount.
It’s not often I panic. Lack of sleep I think.
But seriously Dyson. Why do you not have a button to cancel an order online!
Hahaha, I’m not sure how far down my list would be “Pretend to spend more money so there’s none for them”
I nearly panicked reading it !
Talk about rollercoaster….
I’ve just received an email which amongst other things, contains this:
Am I missing something, or should I jump in with both feet ?
Well I’m blowed. Good job I asked. You just saved me a serious chunk of change.
I got dangerously close to doing some serious investing, I’ll tell you !
It’s risky when you’ve not used your ISA allowance.
Might well have been, but it was good enough for me.
I’m not entirely sure what a long tern investment is and when did the FSCS protection get reduced to £85?
Blimey, in my excitement I missed that little detail
May be worth a re-post in the Fraud Scams thread, for those not following this thread
Well you’re certainly keeping me on my toes - and it’s much appreciated
Have you forwarded this email to Aviva Graham?
