General thread about Monzo :)

Personally I think they’ve tried to rush it out the door - and received some pushback. For those that were able to put it in labs and come along for the journey its not been bad, I think the end result will be nice.

But, it’s no where near ready for wider release and yet people are getting it from day one.

As you note, I suspect a wider deadline is pushing this but it could do damage to the reputation.

Personally, it wasn’t for me. Too much information on one page and a little overwhelming, no matter how many ways I tried it I couldn’t get it to work and it was game over Monzo for me as a result.

They’ve been using it for adverts so far.

Don’t think I’ve even seen any of those.

There are screenshots somewhere in the threads on Monzo.

I’ve seen all 3 of them in my app too.

First off, I’m not a Monzo hater, but a couple of things in that article throw up red flags. Monzo banking specialists, mmmm, so specialist that if the article is to be believed, just passed around Customer Service reps for weeks. Sorry, but when I had a dodgy transaction on my former RBS account running through Amazon Espana, the RBS fraud team were all over it like a rash and it was sorted within a couple of hours.

The customer was ill and disoriented. Well that may be the case, but I can affirm, if I had anyone call me claiming to be from any bank, they’d be told to do one and they’d blocked immediately. I just don’t get how the general public can’t accept that real banks ain’t gonna phone you out of the blue. They’ll usually send a text message and if one believes it to be genuine, you just phone your bank yourself.

I just use a blanket rule of “if you can’t prove you are who you say you are, I don’t trust you”. No need to block anyone - malicious actors will call on another number if they need to.

But I think when they call you I think it’s reasonable to ask to call them back on the official number for the company or to get an appointment etc. anything, really

For what purpose though?

I got a random call out of the blue from Tide (Business Bank) and I hung up on them. Messages in the app only to find out 1 complaint layer that they make outbound calls to sell you their memberships.

My response was why tell customers not to answer calls from people telling you they are calling from the bank to prevent scams but then proactively do it anyway.

Nightmare. Sorry it’s not Monzo related. Just thought I’d bring up that some companies do call out of the blue so most people might think it is serious. “Oh my bank never call me. This must be serious”.

I think there’s a lot of failure in the mobile network industry to stop scam calls as well.

Back to Monzo. Ignore me :smirk:

I don’t know who they are and they go through security with me rather than me go through security with them

Don’t you think it’s a bit backwards? They know my phone number is mine. When they call (since we have no cryptography based caller verification for businesses nor any identification requirements on phone numbers) I don’t know if it’s them

The only exception is if they call me at X time that has been agreed on

I suspect, in part, because real banks do do this.

I never get phone calls from any bank I bank with :man_shrugging:

But then my phone is permanently on silence unknown callers so I never answer any calls anyway from random numbers. I certainly never answer calls from blocked numbers either. I don’t store bank phone numbers in my contacts list either. My rule of thumb is, if you’re directed straight to my answer phone, then leave a message. 99 times out of a hundred, they never do, because they’re either too bone idle, they can’t be bothered, or they’re scammers and I’ve no time for idiots.

It’s not just calls either, but most banks are really quite bad at training their customers to fall victim for fraud, often by acting against their own guidelines they expect customers to follow.

Most recently for me being Santander.

Coop rang me off a withheld number 3 times when they locked my online access once - I preferred to call back in having got an email

Both Lloyds and Nat West have called me out of the blue. Both to have a chat to see if there was anything more they could be doing for me (i.e. what else could they sell me). I just said that I wasn’t interested, thank you, and that was that.

That’s just plain poor, in these times.

That’s what it was with me for Santander as well. Very persistent about it too, to the point it would make you sus it’s fraud. They can’t be doing this and then not expect their customers to fall for these scams when it turns out to in fact be a fraudster.

First direct a good while back. They seemed a bit miffed when I wouldn’t go through security with them too. Called them and it turned out to be a legit call.

I noticed in that article it had a side panel that said you can call 159 to contact your bank if you think you’re being scammed. I just tried the number, and Monzo wasn’t one of the options.

Yes, I just tried that number to see what happens and Chase isn’t on that system either.
