None of that is “nannification”; it’s just procedures to protect customers. You might think it’s all over the top, but you’d think very differently if you, or a close relative, had been scammed.
What I said by definition is nannification. Measures put in place to ‘protect’ us. It’s like when you call to pay a bill and have to go through rigorous security. I have often given them permission to allow anyone who calls and wants to pay my bill for me to do so. Nannification is where everything is setup for the lowest common denominator and the rest of us suffer to protect the fools.
Validating a Sort Code exists before accepting it isn’t “nannification”; it isn’t even objectively a bad thing and managed correctly it might be a way that EE ensure a good customer outcome; by not accepting bad account details which could result in an account falling delinquent.
What you’re describing upthread is not “nannification”, it’s just shite software which has achieved this in the laziest way possible and then not been maintained. What it absolutely is - is a frustrating outcome for the customers it inhibits, and IMHO more should be done to give those customers a voice to get these artificial limitations resolved (which you might argue actually would be an act of “nannification”!).
This is true, organisation of the size of EE has customer support that could manually verify details if they weren’t being lazy about it.
To be honest, you could also enable app upload of photos and then scanned it for document details to work out everything properly
A pity it got personal because in amongst this has been relevant chat about the mechanics of verification. Unless advised otherwise, I’ll assume the thread has reached a logical conclusion.
I’m no where near ready to go using LHV as a ‘main’ bank account. I use Wise far more, even more than Chase these days for spending, especially online purchases.
I’ll keep the LHV account open for the time being but I think it’ll be quite a bit longer yet before I venture further.
Mine only holds 2p interest atm
Must admit, this account completely passed me by.
Reckon I’ll leave it alone unless one of our number tells us of a juicy incentive.
It’s a VERY slow burner
So today I received an email from LHV informing me that they have increased the current account interest to 4 percent AER. Had little choice really but to almost empty the balance in my Chase account back to LHV ![]()
I really want to use it as my main account, but I am still unable to set up any direct debits where account validation is in operation. I fill in my account details and the computer says no. LHV is not helpful and the companies I have emailed about the issue have ignored my emails.
Does anyone know how often companies refresh their account validation databases?
I think I’ll take a closer look…
Blimey - that didn’t hurt a bit. Signed up and verified inside 5 minutes.
Now to heap tons of cash into that 4% treasure chest ![]()
Looks like I’m gonna have to open it🤔
But for the purists among us, the app is awful. It doesn’t even look like an app !
Anyway…… all that cash ![]()
Surely the purists would love it! I think it’s an excellent app. It does exactly what I need without all the frills in some other banking apps. For me it’s one of the best. I’m just waiting until I can set up my direct debits - but I have no long how it will take for companies to update their verification databases.
I tried to set up a direct debit with PayPal last night and despite PayPal indicating they’ve sent a confirmation code to LHV, there has been no code and so I can’t confirm LHV as a new account in PayPal, so a failure from that perspective.
I hate LHV’s App, it’s utter carp in my opinion, not polished at all but I live with it for the 4 percent interest.
To be fair this is by far the best way to validate an account - much better than using a database which hasn’t been updated. When I tried setting up a PayPal DD with LHV I saw the transaction in my LHV account pretty quickly.
