I have a direct debit in place already.
I just usually do the £500 on Halifax debit card to meet the requirement for the free £5 and I am so far away from due date.

I had no idea there was such a limit. My two regular go-tos (Tesco Bank and Amex) certainly allow more than 3 card payments.
Tesco Bank have an annoying restriction of not allowing 2 payments of the same amount on the same day via online banking (meaning you have to do £500, £500.01, £500.02 etc) - the app will happily process £500 chunks tho.
Amex will only process one payment at a time which means payments have to be about an hour apart.
