Other Fintech Forum Moderation

Well the new thing was they’d just shut down the posts, link to a why we close posts thread and then delist it.

I noticed that only happened in the last few weeks

It’s the non fintechy threads I’ll miss the most, doesn’t seem like there’s a place for them here :frowning:

They’re more than welcome (within reason, of course)

We have a #general-chat category for non-fintechy things

Well as Mathew has alluded, create your own topic subjects that interest you.

Those and the users who take part in them.

There’s certainly a general topics place here, but in it’s current form it’s by no means suitable to replace Monzo’s. They really did create something special in that respect. Maybe if it goes, we could try to replicate it here. The biggest question is, will the others come and give this a place a chance if that’s what happens?

I really do hope so. FTT’s and Monzo’s communities had clear problems with one another, but I believe those problems stemmed from their respective leadership decisions and trolls. This place is both neither and a fresh start, so I’d like to think they’d give it a chance.

I know a lot of the criticism in this thread towards Monzo has been especially harsh at times, and that might put folks off and make them feel unwelcome, but I really hope it doesn’t. The frustration in the criticism, I think, is directed very much towards the trolls who ruin it, and the leadership decisions that cause many of us angst.

If any of them are aware of and are reading this place, I don’t think I am alone in saying that I’d very much welcome their joining here and contributing.

I don’t consider myself an optimist, but I do believe engagement rather than exclusion is what brings the best out in us. Through engagement we find common ground, we learn, we grow. And if the Monzo folks do decide to join us here, I think we’d prosper for it. And I expand that notion to any other brand specific fintech forum out there.

Likewise, if Monzo do re open, address the issues, focus on fixing them, I’d hope some folks here who no longer use it would be willing to give that community a second chance too.

@mathew sort of beat me to my point because I got carried away and spent too long typing. For the TL;DR, read his comment:

Given that Monzo purged the thread inviting people here, I’m not sure many will discover it (unless there are ways of advertising otherwise)

I think Monzo could close the forum as not seen it shut for so long. I guess we will just need to wait and see I am surprised there is no updates from the community manager. Must say really happy with this forum and all of the interesting people. Good moderation as well.

I’ve just noticed this in the Monzo App. I guess I press the “No” button :joy:

Given the reduced engagement by Monzo staff over the last couple of years I wonder how much of the feedback on the forums actually gets back to those in development even when it is open?

Is it curtains for the Monzo Community?

  • The community is kaput
  • It’s not over till the fat lady sings

I wonder if they are assessing if the forum being down is having any impact on the chat or customer service numbers.

If it isn’t they may cut their losses but if they see a spike in CS queries they may well reopen it.

The bigger (pun intended) question is… If the lady that sings isn’t fat, is it actually over?

I’d not be surprised if the team is just taking its time (and a bit of a breather) before bringing the community back up.

It has to come back differently - refreshed or remodelled moderation (whatever that might be).

I wonder if they might look for non-Monzo ownership. It doesn’t need to be the Monzo forum, after all. Maybe it just needs to be a live forum.

In any event there’s no need to rush it. No damage being done and the thing about the longer you leave it, the more frustrated users will be?

I’m not convinced that’s a factor - certainly shouldn’t cause Monzo to rush into anything.

Lots of supposition, I’m afraid.

On the Monzo community the posts just disappeared on their own without all this fanfare. Is it possible to set it so? What happens if I flag one?

As am I.

Just thought I would say hello to everyone. I take a few days break and the Monzo forum fell apart? Coincidence?? 100%

Hopefully this place will thrive and won’t have moderators who decide to put civil threads in slow mode because they want to go out for a walk

Yes, and by no coincidence, the world still spins without the Monzo forum. I’m sure Monzo themselves must have woken up to that glaring fact by now. Plus, an absolute bonus for them that no one is talking about the lack of cheque scanning or account closures. They should be thankful for that at least.

And for that reason alone, I’m beginning to think the question on their lips is almost certainly “why would we?”

They don’t even advertise the forum on their website anymore so they? I haven’t seen it there for some time.

I didn’t see what happened? I left it some time ago, it was pretty pointless to me and the misuse of flagging posts was constantly left unchecked.
