Other Fintech Forum Moderation

I see what you did there…

Dead horse being flogged me thinks

And you should see what MSE posters do to those type of people.

It can be ruthless :scream:

Would MSE be a fair one to discuss here? They’re probably more suited for the users of legacy banks, but what’s it like over there?

I’ve visited them a few times, usually when googling stuff, and although there’s the odd bickering and tone policing going on, never really seen much untoward in terms of moderation.

I know, I’ve contributed on MSE, bloody hell, I’ve read some right trash on there. Hardly ever post there these days.

What amuses me is that you’ll always get someone who replies to someone after the thread died like 6 years ago expecting an answer from the person they’ve asked the question of. That happens a lot on car forum threads too. Then a Mod steps in and points out the OP made one post 10 years ago and has never been seen since.

I find the whole fintech forum stuff (and previously FTT) interesting because I think most of the discussion seems to be about legacy banks. I’ll happily eat my words but I suspect the poll @Mathew is running will also show most people’s main account is a legacy bank

So far looking like there’s a whole load of weirdos (@anon62949695 's word, not mine  ) using starling and Monzo, so far :joy:

The latest update on the Monzo Community status is from a reply on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/monzo/status/1395048113640022024

It’s in read only for some internal maintenance, apparently. I suppose it’s possible that although it was taken down due to the trolling, they’ve decided to make use of the down time to make some changes. Doesn’t tell us much, but anything is better than the radio silence we’ve gotten from the community management. A glimmer of hope at least that they’ve not given up on it.

A shame they couldn’t post that on the actual forum and instead force you to go to a Twitter reply for info.

Let’s bring this topic back into line please?

Does monzo freezing the forum not come under the heading of “other fintech forum moderation”? It’s a very strict way of “moderating” a forum, but to my mind it’s still relevant.

I don’t like arguing with mods (yes I do  ) but @tbutz has a valid point. Even the real fake real fake who is Revels said this was on point with his original topic

Absolutely, but the idea of this thread is to advance the conversation. Not seeing too much of that right now.

But then I guess you know that.

Oh is this how Moderators are meant to speak to us “regular” folk now? NICE. Good to see standards remain high.

Maybe they are just wanting to keep forum comms inline with chat.

You ask. You wait.

I would agree with others here that the discussion seemed perfectly in line with what the topic was created for so I see no issue with generating more discussion on a fledgling forum.

The tone of the response to @tbutz just doesn’t sit right with me and isn’t in line with the aspirations of creating a new, more open community without moderators stepping in and shutting down discussions that they don’t like if it doesn’t breach any rules.

That kind of moderation can be found on the Community too and it has more engagement so if it reopens I might as well move back there

I’d have thought that the continued absence of the Monzo forum merely indicates how unimportant and irrelevant it is to the continued every day running of Monzo’s business. If the forum was in any way viewed with any respect, they would by now have completed their revision of how it operates, or pulled it from the web. Keeping it hanging there in stasis with a limited explanation, just attracts ridicule. It’s their train set though.

Not going to lie, the way their handling the forum at the moment is really starting to irk me. The forum was one of the many reasons that I use Monzo as my main bank, the way they’re handling it is really leaving a sour taste.

If/when another bank fulfils my needs like Monzo does, they’re in trouble.

The fact it went from “the weekend” to “another day” to complete radio silence for the rest of the week is ridiculous. They’re showing absolutely 0 respect to those that spend a lot of time there and have stupidly acted as their first line of support for too long.

Add to the fact that you can’t actually message Cooky or Alan in read only mode is even more of a joke

My ‘legacy’ bank is more fintech than some ‘fintech’ banks. fintech means financial technology, not neobank, so legacy banks are fintech if they’re using new technology for finance, and in some cases they lead the way in fintech. In some cases some neobanks are run in a legacy manor, see cheque imagine with monzo, there’s no user facing fintech there, you have to physically send it to your bank like ye olde days
