Yes, Revolut would work.

Doesn’t seem to be any plus points for Cynergy in comparison to Starling EUR account given that Starling is free Sepa instant. Starling has a GB IBAN but if/when that becomes a problem there’s always Wise/Revolut.

Yeah it hasn’t been a very successful experiment - I suppose it can be a back up card with X€ on it when I’m in the Eurozone.

As it stands now if I did want to close it I’m not sure I could! €1 in there and not enough to cover fees lol

No harm in just leaving it. Who knows, maybe it will get better? Or, if we were really lucky, Fineco could buy it

I get the impression it hasn’t changed since the Bank of Cyprus days! I will probably keep it as it could be a back up travel card, and it allows me to quick apply for some savings products.

That said, logging in with an authenticator and paying €6 to send money renders it an emergency cash withdrawal account only imo. It would be pretty hard to track your balance on the go.

I might add €9 and see if I can lift it onto Revolut at some point. Shame you can’t do Apple Pay like Fineco. Perhaps adding it to Curve could be an option when the free plan allows 3 cards in November.

You can use Apple pay of Fineco??? Gosh, it gets better and better… just as it’s about to die :frowning:

I think it’s Ā£10 you need to move it to Revolut so maybe €12?

Yeah you can/could!

It’s €10 from experience, will see if I can add my Cynergy card to Revolut first

it’s 10 pounds, 10 euro, 10 chf, 20 dollars iirc

Cynergy have blocked my top up twice despite me putting in a password I just set and the code they text out :joy:

Triodos used to block card top ups to Revolut but could be circumvented via Curve lol

Aha they have blocked that too - I think once I lift my funds I might wave it goodbye. It’s barely useable :joy:

Been there……:flushed:

Tried with a newly set password - still no luck. I wonder if the password only kicks in overnight :joy:

Can’t get it to work with Curve or Revolut currently - either I call them or hope it works for a Eurozone payment some time in the future

It takes 24 hours for a debit card password to start working - it would be useful if they told you that :joy:

Try Santander Spain non resident account for your next project. It couldn’t be any worse.

Also saw Nickel which looks quite reasonable but you have to go to one of their branches in Belgium to pick up the card. €20/year.

This will certainly be the last experiment lol.

24 hours later and the card still won’t work online. Do they mean a clean 24h or the second working day? I’m not sure we will ever know. On online banking it still has a message about a new password being set yesterday - so I think it could be that it would need to be tomorrow or Monday. Imagine you needed to buy something asap with the GBP current account which presumably works the same!

They could be blocking Revolut like Triodos did? Cba to try Curve again. I can’t even add a payee to transfer out the 10€ as this doesn’t work despite a sufficient balance & them saying it would.

One last try Monday and I may say I will have to wait to use it chip and pin abroad! They have done a good job of keeping the account open, the funds seem stuck there until I try to use it genuinely :joy:

Will anyone else be trying for an account!?!!

Not Cynergy, but thinking of the Santander non resident account.

I’ll be closing it soon.

The password finally registered as being 24h - still wouldn’t allow me to transfer. Revolut told me the card blocks ā€œmoney transfersā€ - so it seems they want you captive to the 6€ sepa charge. I’m not a fan of that.

I decided to top up my Proton credits 10€ as I will need them soon enough. Online banking seemingly only shows the payment once it’s settled - id say it’s bordering on not being usable in a travel environment. Once that clears and I find the effort I’ll call them and close it.

I should have known it would have been a fruitless endeavour, I think that Graham recommended as much current account wise…

Yes. I gave them a chance simply because they were new to the current account scene (they’d been good for savings for some time).

Well-meaning but ponderous. I’d not be surprised if the current account business eventually drops away…… a shame.

Out of curiosity, why are you paying Proton in euros when it’s objectively better to pay in the weaker currency (dollars) as Proton doesn’t adjust pricing for relative currency value

Because I’m lifting funds out of a Euro account.

I pay the subs in dollars but now I have 10 credits.

I think for GBP you could use it if you wanted very limited functionality - but for a EUR account it seems to be broken. I can’t fathom a way you could even send funds out a 6€ for the pleasure.

No pending transactions or logging in without a second device could also be bothersome when abroad. I should have known this, won’t be testing anything anytime soon!
