Anyone had issue with paying in store, over £45, with Google Pay and RBS Select debit card?

Google Pay declined twice.
Terminal asked to insert card (phone

Used my Chase card instead.
Cashier tried to claim that you had to insert card after every few uses

RBS Chat claim it should have worked, but no decline showing on my account
