£100 seems to be the default value banks throw at customers after raising a complaint to make them happy.

When I complained to Barclays about them not supporting Apple Pay like every other big bank, they apologised and gave me £100 for my troubles.

Unless you are Monzo - in which case it’s a mean £30

Starling gave me the same

I guess that’s one difference between cash strapped “challenger” banks and their richer “legacy” competitors :joy:

To be fair: Token compensation I’ve previously received (from barclays and natwest) has been in the £50 - £150 range.

TSB are insane with their compo

Insanely generous (to buy customers off and keep them with them) or insanely mean (giving derisory amounts?

Which is it?

Insanely generous

Makes sense, I guessed that was what you meant but I wasn’t 100% sure!

This experiment was a success, though not a rousing one. A few issues caused enough anxiety that going mobile only doesn’t seem reasonable yet, but it’s promising.

All the shops I visited today accepted Apple Pay. Easy.

My first attempt at using the get cash feature failed. After about 5 minutes of waiting for the cash machine at my local RBS branch to try to process it, it responded with a cash machine failed error. I tried again at the Tesco cash points, and it worked without a hitch. It was a great experience when it worked. Apple Pay withdrawals can’t come to the U.K. soon enough though.

The second hitch was in Co Op. I was unlucky enough to be served by a xeneophobe. I don’t know why some Scottish people treat non Scottish folk the way some do here, but it’s not a nice feeling. To make the checkout process worse, co op’s scanner thing just wasn’t scanning the membership app QR code, and she really didn’t want to type out my number.

As a lifelong student and alumni of the open university I also have a TOTUM card, and the digital experience with that is dreadful too. The app doesn’t have anything to scan, and can’t be swiped like the physical card can. So that was a manual process too.

So the experiment worked, but it was a frustrating experience. I suspect it may have gone better if there wasn’t a limit on self checkout. I won’t be abandoning my physical cards anytime soon though, sadly.

I managed to order both a paying in book and a cheque book through the live chat without any fuss. UK Driving License was the ID I used to sign up, they have seen nothing else with my signature on at all.

I am late to the C&C party :grinning:
I mages to find the link on MSE website from one of the posts above and have got the debit card.
I had a Ulster Bank account which was becoming a pain because I not in NI now so I wanted to change that for some time but was happy with app and everything so it’s great that I could get a nice card and app is basically same as Ulster.

Has anyone upgrade their select account? What was your experience and will I lose C&C branding if I upgrade to £2/m account.

You won’t receive a new card if you upgrade to the Reward account at £2/pcm.

Experience with the C&C account or the reward account in general? If its the latter than my experience is that its free money, add on the equivalent credit card and im also getting 1% back at super markets

Thanks @Eden so it just makes sense to upgrade because I will meet the criteria anyway because I am switching.

Search the thread for the change account form, and use that to upgrade once your account has been open for a bit and is fully up and running.

I posted a link to it a while back.

Hi All,

I’ve jumped on the bandwagon here too.

Applied last night using the link found in the MSE forums –

All went through and then at the end of the application I was given an application number (screenshot attached).

I haven’t received any email/text to confirm anything.

Anyone else has this situ?

Thanks all.

Welcome aboard!

Communication from this point was hit and miss thinking about the experiences here. I certainly a missed an email and text or two that others reported receiving throughout the process, so I wouldn’t be too concerned that you’ve not received anything.

I think there was someone else who didn’t receive confirmation either but then received the email asking for ID at the same time as the rest of us.

One small request if I may though, if you’re happy to oblige, and that is could you remove the link please? I was the one who initially found it, which I presume is how it spread to other sites. With the amount of people that jumped on board as a result, RBS appeared to react with some suspicion towards some folks who signed up, questioning their choice of branch and use of the old form.

As a precaution, we decided as a community to take the links down, so I removed all traces on here. I did reach out to the folks on MSE too, but one person had quoted it, so it remained visible after the comments were deleted.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, which may be lost now, but for those who do want the link to sign up, I can provide it via DM, and I’m sure others will too. Would be a shame to see the loophole get shut down due to the link spreading and gaining momentum again.
