Royal Bank of Scotland accounts

Dark Mode has arrived this morning at RBS on iOS with the latest app update!

Quite late to the party if you judge the app by NatWest standards whom I believe got dark mode months ago?

I think RBS are slowing trying to make my starling account redundant

Btw has anyone noticed that RBS have quietly been updating their online banking with a new UI/system ?

Yes, but only certain pages so far.

It’s quite a nice interface and will look quite modern once it’s finished, I think.

Yes they did, and even now they haven’t rolled it out to Ulster Bank yet!

Most likely to the NatWest archives or even maybe to Drummonds where I believe they have similar items. I’m sure I read that they still keep muskets in the Drummonds branch! (Actually, I’ve found photographic evidence that they do.)

Is there a limit to accounts you can hold? I could very well leave if they can functionally replace my payments from goals

Not long ago had my monthly statement – still 1 Fleet St, still Child & Co, despite the branch closure letter saying all future documents will be from the Victoria branch. Not sure if it means anything though

Generally when branches close, the address and branch name are replaced on statements shortly before or after the actual closure date - so around the time the branch really closes, rather than at the time of the announcement.

After all, technically the initial announcement is the start of a consultation period where the potential closure of a branch is being discussed with customers and regulators before a final decision is made. As we know, such decisions are almost never overturned - but that doesn’t mean they don’t have to go through the exercise.

To have changed the branch address already would be premature, just in case it actually ends up staying open.

Perhaps we should all email in complaints to the RBS email address given in the closure document, asking them to keep the branch open given it’s history and significance, and suggesting they shut the Victoria branch instead?!

I guess you’re right, although I’d put money on the letter having said it will happen from the date of the letter. Maybe they need better copywriters or I need some pills for brain fog

Now that is a good idea! Not sure if it would actually work without demand for branch services increasing?

Talking of which I flipped my statements to paper-based off the back of the discussion on here a few weeks ago about RBS trying to get people off them.

I guess I had visions they’d be sent out on parchment or something - it’s literally the exact same as the RBS ones but with a Child & Co logo. Not even a fancy font or watermark. Disappointed.

Do banks still manufacture branded binders to keep statements in? My first Natwest account came with one but I guess that’s something that banks stopped doing in the 00s because none of my student-related ones from the late 00s had one.

Yes, I think it said something that vaguely indicated the change would happen immediately - that clearly isn’t the case, and usually isn’t, so I’m not surprised that the letter turned out to be just wrong!

Did you expect a hand-stencilled statement on gold-embossed vellum, written by a trained calligrapher and delivered by a butler in Child & Co uniform!

The fancy part is the Child & Co branding. It’s quite nice, and not to be sniffed at, I think.

I think I’d have settled for any one of those elements

When did you get this statement?

I noticed a discernible dip in quality with my most recent statement (most stationary nerds are all about the pens, but paper is my thing!) compared to ones that came before. The paper was different, they were folded different. The hole punches were still there though, but that was it.

I’ll dig out an older one later and compare them. But they’re definitely cheaper feeling now.

The quality seems to go up and down a bit for me.

One that arrived today seemed very good, but a couple of months ago I had a ropey one where it was almost like the printer had been low on ink!

Paper has generally been pretty thick and decent quality in my experience, and certainly far better than NatWest paper statements which are very thin.

That makes me so happy to hear. I’m always being told off by my better half for judging the paper quality of the menus at restaurants…

Ah, menu paper quality is a big marker of overall restaurant quality!
