Royal Bank of Scotland accounts

I mean, four isn’t the end of the world! Haha…

I think you might be mistaking me for @Oberoth.

Oh dear, how embarrassing!
Sorry about that.

Anyway, I seem to remember it being a bit of a minority opinion - and now here we are.

Do savings products not give an opportunity to change your sort code? I assume not

Four isn’t too bad, but there’s also a credit card, a HP, and a personal loan (which will be replaced by another one when the new iPhone comes out)

I don’t think I want the card that badly

The ‘in app’ application for Savings accounts certainly doesn’t offer the chance to swap sort codes whenever I’ve tried it, it just uses the last one.

There’s no requirement to hold a Current Account to open a Savings account (except for the Digital Regular Saver) but there doesn’t seem to be a way of opening one online as a fresh customer.

That right, as far as I can remember.

When I opened the Digital Regular Saver a while back, I think it just defaulted to my Child & Co sort code and didn’t give an option - which was nice, in a way, as I then got the nice statements - but it wouldn’t allow you to switch branch easily.

Other basic savings accounts may be different and perhaps worth a try as there wouldn’t be a credit search on opening one?

I’m not sure about the Monzo post, though. Did the poster already have a Drummonds account and has only just opened a Child & Co - or was it only just opened both?

They used the online form for the Drummonds account, got the card, then applied in app to Child & Co

I might be being really thick here, but where did they say that explicitly?

I can’t see it in the long thread!

I suspect given his location he perhaps visited the branch. (This is complete speculation!!)

I DM’d them, it wasn’t posted on the thread

Oh right, interesting!

So a Drummonds card just turned up, with no intervention, and they were a totally new customer to RBS?

Did they have any dealings with NatWest (like were they already NatWest Premier customers)?

If they were a clean-slate online application, and didn’t have a huge income, then I would assume it’s a mistake/error at the back office.

They’re with NatWest but not RBS. An income around the premier levels might be a reason I suspect

Very interesting indeed!

Perhaps every Drummonds application does go through some kind of check at the Drummonds branch?

I really want to see, but I also don’t want to change my home Sort Code

There is definitely something happening in the background, be that a mistake, premier eligibility or something else

I agree, something is happening in the background in that case, specifically.

Other things are also happening in the background regarding the Child & Co branch closure and migration to nominally be based at the London Victoria branch address. There will also be further changes once Victoria closes, which is where Drummonds comes into the picture as that will be the new “relocated” branch.

I’m not sure I want to mess around with it either, given that 15-80-00 is no longer “Child’s branch” and is now “London Victoria (B)”.

Haven’t you got a Drummonds account already? If I did/had applied earlier I’d go into branch to see if they’d issue me a fancy card. This way I’m not so sure, didn’t know about the default sort code changing

If one day we’ll lose Child branded stationery and cards, I’ll give Drummonds a go. Until then, I’m staying put I think

Unless someone else is feeling adventurous and wants to add to our base of evidence?

Good to see we have a proper body of knowledge on the subject.

That’s right - and “branch title”, as presented to the banking industry in the sort code directory, is London Victoria (B).

You can see it, for example, at Starling’s sort code checker:

Interestingly, the 16-00-11 sort code doesn’t (yet?) seem to have changed.

@anon47616136 Yes, I have had a Drummonds account for years, but only have the branded chequebook. I’m not close to London and won’t be going there soon either - plus I’d be nervous to actually ask in person!
