It can’t just be me that is thinking buying three watch bands for £4.75 delivered, from the other side of the world, is a terrible thing when you think about how little people are paid throughout the chain to get these goods to us? That is before we even get into buying Pride items from a country which doesn’t offer gay people equal rights?
You’re literally still doing that in the west, where do you think the bands are made?
It is irrelevant as I don’t buy one from anywhere. But if I did, I would at least choose one with a distribution chain that contains some pro LGBT countries along the way. Different bands, I don’t really care where they come from. But don’t buy one to support a cause when the source of the product is against the cause.
No you wouldn’t, because aside from destination country it doesn’t exist
China? Nope, Vietnam? Legal but it’s accepted, not tolerated
India? On it’s what but nowhere near accepted
What production chain that a major company would use here do you see yourself buying from???
I don’t think you understood the phrase ‘distribution chain’. You are focusing on the sweat shop it is manufactured in. For example, if it came via Apple, I know that Apple do some good for the cause along the way.
I’m not sure how much Apple pays to support LGBT+ charities each year; but I don’t think any % of the pride sales goes directly towards such causes. So I think it’s better to save £94 and donate some of that savings to your LGBT+ charity of your choice than rely on whatever Apple do with their proceeds
Yes, that is the best solution.
Or, not buying into Pride commercialism and donating instead would be even better.
I don’t see what’s wrong with buying a watch band. I’d buy it even if it wasn’t called Pride because it’s colourful. And it can be a great way for one to signal their support/belonging to a given group in a subtle way
Oh, totally, they are usually nice and colourful bands which make a nice change from most. Buy buying for a couple of quid from a country with questionable human rights to pretend you support Pride isn’t a great look IMO.
I am looking forward to WWDC on 7th June to see more on iOS 15 and new rumoured MacBooks.
WWDC is my second most anticipated event after the iPhone one every year. I do love a good iOS update that I can install immediately and get all upset that bank apps don’t work for months
This year we’re getting a little more! Apple Music special event right after the WWDC keynote tomorrow at 8pm!
Oh really?! That sounds good!!
Maybe this time they successfully remember playlists of people who cancel Apple Music subscription lol
Also rolling Music & Podcasts into one app
There was an issue that lasted several years where itunes in iCloud and Apple Music libraries were kept as separate things, with one disabled by default, and the two not meshing at all.
I believe that’s now been unified as of iOS 14/macOS 11 (and the coinciding release of iTunes for PC) and should no longer be an issue! Though I lost a lot of my kpop songs I’d synced through iTunes Match from CDs I no longer own through that, and which are not available on Apple Music
Tomorrow’s music event is going to be all about spatial audio though apparently.
I wonder if they’ll announce anything to deal with the slight issue of lossless audio not being supported by any of Apple’s headphones…although the chances of them releasing their own wired headphones with amp and DAC is a little unlikely…
I think to do this (without compromising their stance on wireless) they’d need a proprietary wireless technology between their devices and headphones.
Frankly, it’s a bit odd they’re launching lossless without something that can properly support it IMO. Perhaps a move to try to bolster their home and tv hardware products? In any case, spatial audio is the more exciting thing for me, and I think is the innovation Apple will be focusing rather than lossless.
I suspect they’re doing it purely for competitive reasons. Amazon HD, Spotify HiFi and Tidal are trying to eat their lunch.
They probably realise that most of their existing customers aren’t going to care too much, but there’s still those out there that buy physical media, stream their FLAC files using Roon and have a really good pair of wired headphones with large impedances.
You’re probably right. And as expected, spatial audio has been the focus, and was a running theme during today’s event. Being integrated throughout the system.
Jumping back slightly, my bands arrived yesterday. I thought I’d bought a M & L. Turns out I bought 2 of each! No idea how I did that. I like them, the M is a fraction too big and from the sounds of it, they do stretch a bit too.
So I’ve ordered a small one, plus 3 other colours!
