Triodos Bank

Apple Pay is now available for Triodos Bank

It’s really weird but having multiple accounts stresses me out for some reason, so I have to go all in on one account at a time. Just the way my brain works.

Not really. They were never that ethical with their customers. For example, the Pathfinder account was started with a reasonably high interest for the time, dropped the rate a lot and replaced it with the equally high paying but more limited card cash account, also dropped the rate and replaced with a cash card only account which also had the rate dropped and replaced with a more limited account without the card. They subsequently dropped the rate on that.

So, ethical in their investments, not so much with their customers.

Ethical means different things to different people; I don’t think the Co-op Bank has ever pretended to confuse it with good customer service.

At the risk of temporarily developing the topic, I’m not sure that a bank can be judged to be unethical simply through making their product less attractive over time.

To promise to keep rates high and then to drop them might be unethical if the reason were about catching funds. That’d certainly be questionable and the very least, shabby. But I see ethics as being higher-minded than that (but what do I know? :relieved:).

I think the unethical bit was in pulling in customers who largely stayed because of the grander ethical standing.

As has been pointed out, Triodos justified their £3 charge because of not charging those not using overdrafts, yet haven’t even reduced it now that they don’t offer overdrafts.

Apple Pay is available, but not Google Pay :frowning:

That’s definitely shabby, if they stated the reasoning for the fee as being that.

Edit: When all is said and done, it looks like Triodos have blown the chance to succeed as a popular ethically-driven bank. They don’t have a USP now and they’ve no real incentive for new customers.
