Yes, it was a toss-up between those two words for me, too, except I luckily chose the correct one 
Edit: And I’ve just realised that I shouldn’t even have been considering the other word because that letter was already eliminated

You don’t appear to have considered you may be a genius ! 
My brain is far too slow for that! If there was any strategy involved it was to think of a word with a letter T in it. Other than that, pure guesswork.
