I’m conflicted. 
I guess one can overthink it, but it seems to me I rarely get more than one letter in my first line and frequently line one is blank. Yet mine and your two words aren’t short of vowels. 
And for transparency…
(My word is BEAUS)
And today’s word was a bit short on vowels anyway. That’s why I deleted my post yesterday - I thought I’d come up with a great wheeze for a stunning start word - get as many vowels as possible - and then realised that was complete rubbish - as proven today. I need more coffee I think. R-

B and U feature less than 3% in English words, so perhaps not entirely surprising that you often don’t get many hits with your starter word.

Hmmm - time for a change methinks (didn’t know my word was quite as crappy as that ).
I’ve just noticed you chaps frequently gets 2 & 3 letters on line 1.

That’s mainly due to me looking over @MikeZ ’s shoulder. Actually line 2 is blind luck. Some days it feels like 3,4,5 are as well.
