A start-up led by Wales’s top serial financial technology entrepreneur plans to launch a sustainable money app, account and debit card in January 2025.
Zero, based in Cardiff, is run by chief executive Richard Theodossiades (Richard Theo), who previously set up Wealthify, ActiveQuote and financial technology industry group FinTech Wales. He set up Zero with chief financial officer Benjamin Dixon, who previously held lead finance roles at Kroo and Tandem bank.
The Cardiff business aims to provide climate-conscious consumers with personal finance options that help the environment.
Its leadership team includes chief sustainability officer Lisa Stanley, who previously worked at Triodos Bank and co-founded the website Good With Money.com.
Stanley said: "Zero is planning its full UK public launch for January 2025 and will be adding a succession of exciting new features to the product throughout 2025.
“These will include things like enabling customers to make contributions to carbon sequestration and nature-based projects in Wales, the UK, and beyond.”
The business plans to launch a savings account early in 2025. And, said Stanley: “The future roadmap includes new account features, more sustainability features, a savings product, and a potential sustainable investment offer."
Zero has received funding from business angel investors, supported by the Development Bank of Wales Angel Co-investment Fund. It aims to raise further investment in 2025.
Zero is chaired by Paul Ellis, the former chair of the Ecology Building Society. Its team also includes David Craven as chief operating officer, Kate Hodge as head of product, and Matt Hunt as principal software engineer.

I think the ATM limit is £500/day so very handy if you’re going to a cash based country.
