A PayPal thread…

You can set up credit cards too. I’ve never had a single penny in my PayPal account, I just charge purchases to one of my credit cards.

I’ve clearly missed a point here. How can you earn PayPal+ rewards if you’re not actually using the PayPal debit card by leaving a £0 balance on it? Why would PayPal go to the bother of giving out ‘Rewards’ if you’re not actually using their card but allowing funds to be taken from another card? Doesn’t make sense in my stupid mind :joy:

Going back to Amazon, I notice there’s no PayPal branding on the added PayPal debit card unlike the rest of my debit cards which carry all the branding and look like my physical cards.

Yep. I assumed it was debit card only, but took a swing at adding a credit card which currently offers cash back - they could only reject it, after all.

Well, blow me down, it’s accepted it. So I’m assuming I’ll get the CC cashback as usual + anything Paypal+ offers.

Is that reasonable?

Must admit, I’m wondering that. Someone cleverer than you or I will enlighten us….

@Amazon_Parcel Please put us out of our misery and enlighten us!

Edit: I’ve just re-read the thread. I misunderstood and mixed up the £0 PayPal balance versus a zero GBP balance on the PayPal debit card. You can only earn points using a funded balance on your PayPal debit card.

I too never keep a credit balance on my PayPal account, that’s utterly pointless. Debit card is totally different. As I mentioned above, the PayPal debit card will now take over from my WISE card for normal daily personal spends.

So, I’ve just tried to add funds to my PayPal debit card from my LHV bank account and it was declined :man_shrugging: Worked fine from my Nationwide account.

People got cash fees on credit cards as this is a cash transaction to top up the “debit card”.

It also shows on my bank as Top up.

If your credit card provider didn’t charge you, well and good. I didn’t try that option so can’t reliably comment about it.

Edit: I didn’t earn points at BP, one time on the debit card and another on the credit card so I guess Petrol stations may be excluded.

This time you are topping up the Paypal debit card and purchase charge made onto it, this may be the difference. Anyway if it works for you, all good.

It’s about owning spend.

Same thing Curve were after, ultimately.

The cash back is a loss leader which won’t last forever.

Ah, that’s a good point. I was wondering what the implications of using the credit card for topping up might be. Now I see the risk.

Reverted to bank debit card…

Well, that journey was a short one, for me.

Really do not see the benefit of using this card, so ditched already.

Had it attached to Chase to check what it went through (my NatWest linked transaction at Lidl is still not showing) and it went through as PayPal, no cashback at Lidl.

Bearing in mind I can get 1% on my shopping without waiting 60 days, it’s not worth the effort…for me.

Others will definitely see a benefit in their world though, so good luck to them.

Oh well, it was nice to something new to play with.

It doesn’t seem to improve what I’ve already got setup, so hey ho !

The Paypal credit 4 months of 0% come in handy for me now with this card as can be used in places that do not use Paypal checkout and physical stores.

Well, so, went out and bought some more goods and used the virtual PayPal card. No issues, all transactions went through ok. My problem however is, it doesn’t matter now what debit card I try to use to top up the PayPal balance with, PayPal just comes back with an error telling me there’s a problem and the action cannot be completed. I’ve never once ever had this problem with WISE and so just 48 hours in, I’m sacking off the PayPal card. What’s the point if I can’t even top up the balance!

You can actually top up by Faster payment if you really want to and it is instant too.

Trust me, I’ve tried. It doesn’t matter what I do, PayPal appear to have blocked any attempt for me to top up the account so I’ve canned it. Not only that, I’ve had an email telling me that the physical card won’t even get to me until the end of December. WISE managed to get me a debit card delivered within 3 days of me applying for that! Nope, PayPal debit card is in the bin as far as I’m concerned :+1:

The email for the cards actually told me about 15 working days but got them in 6.

Did you use that reference number specific to you in the faster payment option? It is located in the settings for your linked bank account where you see the sort code and account number for Paypal. I have not had issues with that.
