Imo yes. Monzo used to do it. Dozens did. Triodos do.
First time I am seeing it. None of the over 12 banks I have used showed it.
Starling do. Though may be because the sender is in my payee lists anyway.
Tbh, I didn’t even read it fully. I got the gist of it and just deleted it.
I agree though. Do not see it as positive thing for a financial institution.
Yes, why would it not be good? Starling and Monzo show the details of the sender, too.
What’s wrong with it?
Well, I’ve had no communication with them, never signed up for anything, they don’t know me from Adam - and yet they invite me to donate.
A tad presumptuous methinks….
Well that would be a breach of the electronic communications regulations!
Not quite sure why they would be emailing you if you’ve never given them your email and consented for them to contact you. It’s too regulated a market to risk going the unsolicited marketing route.
And yet……![]()
Report it.
Take legal action. I’ve done it many times against other companies. Compensation can be as much £2000 for a single breach of the regulation.
Doesn’t appeal, frankly. I can’t get enthused at the prospect of going after a financial outfit that’s transgressed. And anyway, I wouldn’t get out of bed for £2000 ![]()
You strike me as the type of guy that quietly leaves a £4k tip after a fry up at your local greasy spoon ![]()
Indeed. I don’t need the plaudits - handsomely rewarding the cook down the road for the quality of her poached eggs is what gets me up in the morning.
I’m just that kind of bloke….![]()
Personally prefer this, Starling doesn’t do it unless you’ve got the payee saved and that’s very irritating.
The donation feature is new, no? I think it’s pretty normal that’ll send you marketing emails about their new announcement.
I’d think there is an option to opt-out from further marketing emails going forwards.
Their marketing emails are opt-in. You have to both sign up, and tell them you want to receive those emails. Or joining the list on their website (which no longer exists) opts you into it by default.
I think the assertion from Graham is they’ve neither opened an account, nor signed up for anything on their website or provided them with their email in any way. That makes it unsolicited marketing which violates section 22 of The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. And it would probably land them in hot water with their own regulator too by breaching these regulations should you report them for it.
Ah okay, then yeh that is defiantly strange. I can only think that his details being shared by an third-party of some sort.
Good to know about the Section 22 Privacy Act.![]()
I had the same issue I did a follow up email I got the money on Monday
Can’t see this mentioned by anyone else but in their app they are advertising 1.5% cashback if using mobile wallet for transactions (as opposed to physical card) - sounds pretty good to me.
It’s been in play for a while, a nice little bonus for paying how I normally do ![]()
