Apple iOS updates

I think the system often reindexes after a software update, so it could have been that!

I’m sure most of us here already know, but just in case:

Ok, so I updated my XR to iOS 15. I’m immediately underwhelmed :weary: Have I actually missed something here? I was expecting a party popper to burst out of the screen, didn’t happen.

Have you tried Safari yet?

The bar is now at the bottom? What’s that all about?

It’s moved up and down a bit during the betas but I’ve finally got used to it being at the bottom and actually prefer it now.

You can change it back in Settings/Safari, though.

You’re an absolute star for pointing that out. I’ve changed it back to ‘normal’. Really don’t get why they’ve decided to ponce about with that.

Have you tried the weather app?

There is a nice update to that.

I don’t use that weather app, I use Weatherpro, so I can’t say I’d notice.

Anything else I should be looking out for seeing as I’m such an ignorant iOS clutz?

There is actually a lot of small stuff, you will realise it’s different over time.

Otherwise, maybe Focus modes and Notification Summaries?

I do like the new weather app. I had to uninstall Dark Sky to get the rain notifications to work, though.

Thanks again. Just had a quick look through it and some of it I never use anyway. I never use i’message, it’s all WhatsApp, I never facetime any dudes because I’m frightened I’ll laugh if they’re ugly, Siri, Maps, don’t use them. I may just as well as stayed on iOS 14 because clearly 15 is wasted on me

This was on the beta, so maybe you don’t any more, but I had to go to Privacy settings and set Location to Always to get them to work.

Oooh, I just find WhatsApp so clunky compared to iMessage, so always prefer iMessage myself. Plus it integrates with my Mac.

Also, WhatsApp is Facebook so best avoided!

I actually don’t know anyone who uses imessage.

As for WhatsApp, yup it’s Facebook I accept that, but I’m not on Facebook online in any other way. There’s so many things in life to be avoided, Covid being one of them, but Facebook doesn’t require a jab, so I’m not too fussed.

I have an old Nokia 3310 that you might like

I appreciate the offer, however, I do have a Nokia 5110 still in full working order sat in my bedside draw. I take it out every now and again just to show people still trapped in the mid 20th Century.

Yes, I did this during the early betas but only removing Dark Sky would get them to work consistently and with a sound alert. Probably something to do with how they’ve included “Dark Sky technology” in the new weather app.

Agreed - also family and friends all have iPhones so iMessage is ideal.

Interesting, I just thought I’d mention it as the app didn’t prompt me anywhere.

I don’t have Dark Sky myself so I have no idea if this is a widespread issue.

As for the messaging thing, it’s very much about what your friends and family use. Most of my family have iPhones and most friends do too. I do (reluctantly) have WhatsApp as well because I do know some people with Android phones, but it’s never my first choice.
