Apple iOS updates

Didn’t know that. Ta.

You can also load up a website, press the Aa icon and select “Show Top Address Bar”.

Apple Wallet and specifically the transaction list has gotten some love. You now get a little more detail and even an icon (usually a generic one based on the merchant category code).

Works nicely with American Express transactions as the list includes all debit transactions on your account (not just ones made on the that particular device).

Yes, I do like the Apple Wallet revision. Even the addition of the expired passes tab. I have 19 boarding cards I can’t bear to delete!

Question: (I know, it’s exciting, isn’t it?)

Just had an iOS update on my phone. I don’t recall seeing “iCloud Private Relay” before. Is it a new thing?

Also on XR still, the phones have matured so little in recent years I think I’m going to replace the battery myself and call it a life until the XR stops getting updates…

Yes, it’s new with iOS 15. Rather than explaining it myself, here’s Apple’s support document:

Thanks @MikeZ , I recently upgraded from basic iCloud and this feature comes with the upgrade I see.

Yes, you get this and some other new features (e.g. using your own domains with iCloud mail) even on the 79p per month iCloud storage plan.

iOS 15.0.2 is out if anyone hasn’t yet updated.

…and you should update because it patches a serious 0-day vulnerability.

Offered it on iPad but 14.8.0 only on iPhone. R-

If you scroll down on that screen it should say something like “Also available” and show iOS 15.

Oh yeah. Thank you. R-

Private rely is nice, you’ll get an apple IP address when browsing the web with Safari, and they can obscure your IP location too if you’d like.

The bigger thing is the email privacy stuff in my opinion.

Hide my email has been amazing for me! And Mail Privacy Protection should hopefully help nip spam in the bud. It deactivates tracking pixels, so they no longer know when you read their emails, and the private relay stuff is used here too to keep your IP private from scrupulous emails with embedded web content.

iCloud+ is pretty great.

What’s the 0-day out of interest? Been a bit out of the loop on this front.

Impact: an application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Yeah. You don’t want arbitrary code running with kernel privs

It also fixes a fairly serious bug on the iPhone 13 series where a recovery mode or DFU restore might not complete properly!

So well worth updating OTA as soon as possible on those phones, to make sure recovery mode works if/when you might need it in the future.

I assume iOS 15.1 Beta 4 also includes the same fixes, so anybody up to date with betas is also likely protected.

I see a 1.3gb update in the form of 15.1 is now out. iOS 15 seems such a long time ago since its release
