Chase UK Discussion

If it doesn’t have transaction downloads in QIF or CSV it doesn’t work for me yet either, and the website only mentions PDFs.

A shame because Chase don’t have the two big baggage items which bother me about the current fintechs, lack of instant telephone support and question marks about financial viability.

Isn’t Apple Card the only card in the world to do this?

Curve Investor, to my knowledge, is the only numberless card - but that can’t have the numbers regenerated on the fly.

And because it’s so new, it won’t be available in Open Banking aggregators yet either, so you can’t get your transactions out that way.

Don’t come crying to me when they leave and you have to switch elsewhere :joy:

Can you please just drop it now? People explained why it won’t happen and yet you just go on about it

No one knows for sure it won’t happen, it’s entirely possible…

I wouldn’t - I’d just move my spending back to my credit cards!

I’m keeping my whole portfolio of other accounts anyway; why wouldn’t I!

If it happens now, I’m blaming you!

So no credit products or direct debits?

It does make you wonder whether they’re going down the Monzo or Starling route and doing a soft search?

How would one contact them to check, would need to be this way for me due to circumstances

I’ve heard they answer the phone faster than First Direct, so shouldn’t take you long to get your answer at all!

I’m on the wait list -
Direct debits are coming soon

So far so meh.

They’ll lose a lot of early momentum straight off the bat with it not being a fully featured account from the word go.

I agree, but with the time it takes to sort out Direct Debit acceptance it is very difficult to just launch it all at once without a lengthy delay.

It will also never be perfect on launch day, that’s not realistic.

I’m not really saying it needs to be perfect - I’m saying they’ll have slowed their momentum by not waiting until they had all basic banking features in place, even if it is difficult.

This isn’t something like dark mode, it is direct debits - essential to most peoples bank accounts.

There’s always a buzz around launch and every early review is going to mention it can’t be used as a main bank account.

It’ll take a lot of effort to get that momentum back, and it’s not like they were in a rush to get out before somebody else. So why not wait?

Although possibly a discussion more for the card design thread…

Those are the two most people know about, but there are others (although mainly not available in the UK); since moving to Visa, Wise have tweeted a couple of times about their card being numberless (and details only available in the app), but for the UK, they are still issuing cards with the card number on the back (like Curve / Revolut etc. cards) - I can only assume they are issuing numberless in some EU countries, and not the UK, or there’s confusion over what the card actually looks like.

There’s also FamCard in India, Santander Mexico, a Mastercard in Singapore and many others I’m sure.

Lack of direct debit is kind of a huge hole, I’ll wait and see what the looks like at actual launch, but clearly it can’t be used as a day to day bank if you can’t pay your bills from it.

I reckon they’ll quieten the dissatisfaction around this if they sign off DDs pretty quickly. If it gets many months down the line, those keen to go “Full-Chase” may well go off the boil.

I wonder if, what with the multiple accounts approach, they’re hoping to trial a few options with DDs or just run a beta to avoid hiccups. Lack of DDs could mean they’re planning something new.

For instance, they say you can close any account instantly. How will that work with scheduled payments? Will you only be able to DD from a specific account?

The same way it works now?
