Good morning,

At the moment, opening an account with us we will only complete a soft search’

Sure, so the DD just gets cancelled, but eg an option to move the DD to one of your other accounts would be nice. There are a few ways they might do it

I wonder when the first wave of customers will get onboarded?

You are more well-versed than me!

I was really thinking about things available in the U.K. (in that there was none I knew of) in reply to what you had said about it being a first in the U.K.

Plus Apple Card was first in the world, and the only one I knew of that could be “auto-regenerated”. But interesting that other cards do exist!

I take the point, but I think they felt a pressure to launch as the window for a new entrant to really get attention is closing. Most of the “digital banking” features are becoming commoditised and this will be “enough” for a lot of consumers eventually. So they need to strike while the iron is still hot.

There is also little point in delaying what is already a relatively soft launch.

Finally, as @Graham speculates, I think they will probably support Direct Debits relatively soon. They will realise that they can’t not have them for months on end, so I would think it’s an all hands on deck approach to make sure they are ready as soon as they can be.

In fact, I’ve seen some of the other banks offer to transfer direct debits from one account to another before…

I’m intrigued by numberless cards, so have done some (not very scientific) research (aka google searches) on the topic :joy:

the optimist in me wonders if DDs are happening but wider roll out is delayed while they sort out acceptance issues?

Not going to read through the whole thread but the 5% on roundups is pretty much the only notable thing I’ve seen so far, they have a good bit of work to do to compete. Maybe a switching offer?

They would need to develop their product quite a bit more before they could do an attractive switching offer - and that’s just their current lack of CASS and direct debits…

Given it’s a soft search see no harm in using the 1pc cash back on some of my spend

I don’t buy that as a reason for the lack of direct debits. Its important to recognise that it’s not a new bank in the UK and JP Morgan Chase has had dedicated UK sort codes for years including:

60-91-41
60-92-42
60-95-76
60-95-61

for various purposes.

I don’t know what sort code their retail bank will use, but they are very familiar with this aspect of the UK banking system and its not like other banks didn’t know they were going to launch a retail product.

That’s good!

Testing the Twitter feed, I dropped them a question about instant notifications (before @anon62610374 had done the digging ).

The reply looks to be a standard response, seemingly unrelated to my enquiry - probably a bit out of date.

Yes, they say they aren’t available yet, or something like that, so they are clearly coming.
