I’m feeling all left out in not getting any Chase surveys
You’re welcome to mine
Hmm I haven’t received the survey, maybe because I joined chase less than a week ago?
Yeah, you had to sign up separately for a Chase Survey Panel. It doesn’t come with the account.
I rate this. My newsagents are open later than post offices and more accessible
Yeah, please share!
Without going into it too much, trying to lock people into savings accounts while not going anywhere near a year fix in effective rate l
If it’s the same one that was shared at the other place, it’s really not. I don’t get the point of it, but it takes nothing away from the existing easy access style of the account, but adds an additional reward for those who don’t touch it for a while. That’s a win/win by any definition.
I know a lot of people (myself included) who store their rainy day pot in an instant access saver for peace of mind but never touch it. This would be great for those. It’s not trying to lock anyone in. And the bonus only requires 90 days without withdrawing, so we should be looking and comparing to 90 day notice accounts, not one year fixes. And those tend to be around that 5% ballpark. And those are far less flexible due to the notice nature.
And yet I hold six accounts with a rate higher than the combined one Chase propose
Zero use to me.
That sounds more like an issue with their instant access saver rate than the offer they were proposing to me. The idea in principle is a good one. But the rate is not market leading for instant access.
I do question if there are even six instant access providers out there that beat it though. Most are next working day, which can be too slow in the event of an emergency. I’m only aware of one (Ulster) because it was the only instant access one recommended when I asked in the savings thread (but it has other restrictions). Who are your 6? If I can get a better instant access rate, I’ll take it. As long as the account is FSCS protected I’m not fussed who it is.
Most are NLA now.
Santander Edge Saver, 7%
Gatehouse EA, 5.23%
Beehive, 5.20%
Santander Limited Edition 3, 5.20%
Barclays Blue Rewards Rainy Day, 5.12%
Skipton Bonus Tracker 5, 5.06%
Then I have Tandem at 5.00%, no bonus required (unlike the Chase proposal)
Ford Money, 4.95% (though now at 4.85% for new customers)
Santander and Barclays are truly instant. Tandem 15-20 mins
There was 1y on the survey (too) lol and the notice period was 90 days but if I wanted a 90 day notice account and the strings attached, I’d open a notice account
I opened a Chase account last Friday to test it out (I now have five current accounts, or six if you include the second Chase account I opened in the app). It was the easiest and quickest account opening experience for me so far. I like the ease of opening another account, which I may use to switch elsewhere if/when a good new incentive arrives. I also really like the cashback, which has worked seamlessly and efficiently, apart from when their systems went down briefly on Saturday. I can see myself using this as my main spending account for the next year at least, just for the cashback. The savings account doesn’t have the best rate and I will keep most savings elsewhere, unless they become more competitive here.
There’s also the teensy problem that the various investment providers are about to start competing on interest rates: AJ Bell slashes fees and hikes interest rate after warning from regulator
So down to iWeb prices then, of £5 per trade, but I notice not until 1 April 2024!
I currently have my savings in Metrobank 5.10%
Possibly not the wisest spot given the bad news coming out. They’ve just stopped issuing loans from a subsidiary.
There’s FSCS protection - perhaps a worrying week if it did happen though
I also have Metrobank as my main bank account with a high amount of money in it. I also have Chase, Monzo and Starling.
Any ideas for a good joint current account guy’s.
I have some savings in metro Bank instant access, I know it’s a risk (of perhaps some time, if there is regulatory action) but I’m comfortable with it.
My partner and I have a Monzo joint account and it works well for us. The pots are useful for various things.
