Chase UK Discussion

I think it’s done that way because you have 20 accounts and you can essentially use them in any way you like, so having all tools available in all accounts gives you some freedom to choose how you want to use that account.

I don’t think it’s intentioned for people to set a goal on an account they’re using for spending. I think it’s meant for accounts you’re using to stash money in, either to save for something or cover bills, and I think it works nicely for that.
The distinction and messaging could be clearer on that though.

Covering bills would be good if you could have multiple cards or pay DDs from it.

I was also wondering, if they start reporting to CRA’s - do you think they’ll report all the accounts?

Direct debits are coming! but agreed, each account having its own virtual card number would be game changing to me. I think they’d all need to be separate from the current virtual card though, as that’s the one associated with Apple Pay, not the details of the physical card.

I’m curious as to how they’ll approach this well. I suspect they’ll report all the accounts, but it’ll be interesting to see how they do go about it once credit facilities ultimately get thrown into the mix.

How would overdrafts work for instance? When you’re spending from several different accounts. I suspect we’ll get what Monzo folks have been clamouring for for a while now, and that’s a dedicated overdraft pot that any of your accounts can pull from. But then, given that that wouldn’t technically be classed as an overdraft, how would they report on that?

I’m very interested to see how all of this winds up playing out, because the base approach is a pretty unique twist on things.

Aha. Do you know, I’d forgotten about the multiple account capability…… (sorry Chase :flushed:).

There are some interesting foundations there - we will have to see if it ties together into something innovative. It’ll certainly need to be prior to the end of their 1st year boons to keep my interest.

The app does appear to be looking a little nicer of late - but it’s all slow and steady!

Any idea of a timeline?
This is the one thing that is holding me back from using the account more than I do currently.

Your guess is good as mine! All they’ve said thus far is soon!

The only thing I find very annoying is, I have 12 accounts in my Chase app for different things but when adding money to each account, I only get the option for the first 10 accounts, if I want to add money to my 11th & 12th account I need to reorder them to be within the first 10, very annoying, unless I’m doing something wrong…has anyone else got this problem? Thanks in advance.

You can send money direct to any of the accounts if you want to use the unique sort code and account number.

Assuming you save this as a payee at another bank, transferring money in can go directly to the right place and it’s all a one-step process.

I mean transferring money within the app, it’s not a major problem, just annoying having to reorder my 11th & 12th accounts every time I want to add money to them from my main Chase account

Money in alerts now state the amount received - rather than “some money landed in ……”

Much more helpful. Now just to get rid of the ridiculous emoji’s

Also with a notification sound, I noticed this morning.

However, a faster payment from Chase didn’t produce a notification at all.

Yes sounds are now on for money in and out - this is great and I think it’s been working for about a week or so.

If you transfer from one chase account to another I don’t think you get a notification at the moment. Maybe that will change.

I do like how Chase are making small improvements that actually mean a lot to users.

I really can’t wait for direct debits as I expect Chase will be my main account then.

I’m not getting any notifications for money out with Chase - just money in. That’s to any bank, not just Chase → Chase.

I think that would be very annoying because you’re doing the action then and there so already know what is happening. I certainly wouldn’t want to be notified of those transfers to further clutter my notifications

Good news is that you won’t have to wait much longer – according to sort code checker their SC can now accept Direct Debits. I expect they’ll still need to test them before switching them on for everyone

Sorry I misunderstood - I haven’t done a lot of transfers out from Chase. Mainly card payments and I get a notification for these. It may be worth messaging Chase to ask them for this as they’ve been very good at making changes we want so far.

It’s not really a problem at the moment because I obviously know when I’m making a FP to another bank, but I’m hoping that DDs (when they come) will give notifications.

Why do you say it will be your main account then, out of interest?

To be honest, although it’s slowly improving, I’m still not that impressed with their app. It feels “clunky” to me, and if it wasn’t for the cashback I wouldn’t be using it much at all.

If this is the best that the Antony Jenkins technology they seem to have bought in can do, it’s not great.

The whole thing still has a scruffy “beta feel” to it, if that makes sense - a feeling heightened by the slight loading delays and inconsistencies you seem to get moving around the app.

I quite like getting a notification for a leaving payment, it leaves you in no ambiguity that’s it gone through.

Just made a purchase and got THREE notifications :man_facepalming::joy:

Google Pay
Curve
Chase

Oh well. Easy enough to dismiss.
