I think the app is clean and at the moment there is little advertising for other products unlike Barclays or Lloyds - however this might come in the future I know.
I do wish payments into the account would be much faster but I can live with that for the minute.
Also, I just like being a customer of Chase - a big US bank in the UK. It could be that simple.
They really need payments in and out to be truly instant, though, given that virtually every other bank manages it and a main function of a current account is payments in and out.
Agreed, and really the cashback offer isn’t a great deal more innovative than Santander (shivers) offerings on DDs or TSB spend & save (which will pay you out more unless you spend a rather large amount with Chase)
So once they have the DD function, it wouldn’t feel any different being paid into Chase as the above mentioned banks for me.
The only upside to opening Chase just for a bit of financial reward is that you aren’t hard searched when you open it.
WRT the whole US prestige argument - I think that would hold more water if you were getting that kind of experience product wise. It feels like an early stage prepaid account with a large marketing budget at the moment.
I don’t disagree, it does fill a gap in my portoflio.
It’s just not yet of the kind of quality, overall, that a decent fintech “should” be (although I accept that we are spoilt in the U.K. with Starling, Monzo and the rest, so that sets a high bar).
Oooh, that’s very nice! Merchant specific cashback seems like a sensible expansion of the base 1% offering, considering the customer earns more in rewards and Chase are able to recoup the costs through commission from the company.
I still haven’t activated cashback on my account (still saving the 1 year for a later period with more planned spending!) but I notice that Chase have updated the wording on the activation screen as I’d suggested in a chat with someone from their Edinburgh office…
My confusion arose from the ‘Ok’ text on the activation button being rather ambiguous (would tapping on it simply dismiss an info screen or would it start the timer on my 1 year of cashback?), and I got bollocked by a couple of people on the other place for supposedly being thick. But glad to see they took the feedback onboard - I think this is much clearer!
So I wonder, could this be their long term play? Lure people in with the general 1% whilst they build out a catalog of better merchant specific offers, that will likely make more financially viable sense as opposed to being a simple loss leader.
Amazon is a big brand to have on board, which sounds for a promising start, whilst others a fumbling around with niche, often London-centric, brands that no one’s ever heard of or wants to spend with anyway.
This being right in time for Black Friday and lasting all throughout the holiday period is a pretty big deal. Amazon is, I suspect, where a lot of people do much of their Christmas shopping. I know I do. This guarantees I’ll be using Chase for that now.
I decided to start using my Chase card yesterday after Amazon announced they were no longer accepting Visa credit cards from early next year (assuming that it actually happens), so this 3% offer has come just at the right time
One of the things I was put off by was the lack of Open Banking because I like to keep everything visible in Emma. I discovered that you can still set up recurring payments in Emma with a manual account so I’ve moved all my CCAs to Chase to take advantage of the cashback and round-ups.
May as well use it while I’m waiting for DDs, etc.
I have tested this enhanced cashback of 3% at Amazon doesn’t track if you use Curve. When you use Curve you only get the basic 1% and nothing shows up in the pending section for the 3% cash back.
When you use the Chase card directly it pops up as pending in the 3% cash back section.
This is a heads up to all Curve users. I have removed Curve card from Amazon now
Thought this would be the case - had similar using the 3% reward at Greggs via Revolut whilst it was live. Didn’t pick up using Curve - so lost the lot!
Flicking through Bank with Chase | Chase UK I was about to applaud the neat simple communication when I came upon the reference to the “Chase Octagon”.
“….Visit the Chase Octagon for a free and immersive experience….” etc
It might be me, but it reads like the “Octagon’ is some sort of resource…. In fact, I’m seeing it just as a play on the logo. I don’t see any links to it, certainly nothing UK focused, anyway. Strange.
