Chase UK Discussion

Agree.

I have the Starling app, but no DDs, so did not know they provided this feature.

My Monzo app/account does exactly that. Including a nice surprise this month of an increase in income. Forgot my tax code changed

Oh dear. I’ve just tried to change my direct debit with Vodafone in app, to my Chase account. Vodafone it seems can’t confirm the bank details and so won’t allow it to proceed. It states I need to look out for a text from Vodafone or if I don’t get one, to contact them. I currently don’t have any D/D’s set up with Chase at all, this was a tester and it has failed. Not impressed.

I’d shoot Chase a message through support, I’m sure they have a dedicated department for issues like this and it’s likely something a higher up from Chase (I imagine the CEO would be concerned with one of the four networks who own towers not accepting their sort code) could get sorted in 1-2 days by contacting Vodafone’s upper management/board directly

Yeah, already did that and they responded quickly too. The CS rep told me that they have had this issue with other Vodafone customers and the only way it will get resolved, is by phoning Vodafone who will carry out the update manually to resolve the issue. I sense the blame is being placed firmly with Vodafone who probably haven’t updated their systems in one form or another.

Again, this is turning into a faff. I don’t want to phone Vodafone, but I have no choice. I want to change over my direct debit from Starling because I’m trying to wind Starling down to the point whereby I can CASS out (hopefully to Chase if/when they join CASS).

I changed my EE, Talktalk, Sky, Sainsburys bank, Amazon card, And paypal with no issue. I am just waiting to have them show up on the Chase app

Trying desperately not to come across as sarcastic, but I notice you didn’t mention Vodafone in that list!

You’re not helping

If you’re not opposed to keeping multiple accounts, and you’re switching most things over manually, I’d recommend keeping Starling open given they won’t let you come back for a year after closing an account

I’m genuinely not bothered about that. I get it that some who leave have regrets because whether it be Starling or Monzo don’t exactly make it easy to return to the fold. At the end of the day, Starling to me, are just another bank.

But back to my direct debit saga with Vodafone and wanting the D/D switched to Chase. I’ve spend around 1.5 hours today trying to achieve just that. Unable to change details in the Vodafone app, I tried phoning. Massive mistake! Just sent around and around in circles, press one, press 2, do this, do that and getting no where. They send a text directing me to the web portal. I try changing the details there with the same result, unable to confirm Chase Bank details.

In the end, I resorted to web chat, but even that wasn’t straightforward. Intially, you start of with a BOT and you have to keep making it clear you want to chat to Customer Services. Eventually, it connects me to a CS rep. I explain the problem, they go through security and ask me for Chase Bank details. They then ask me what branch my account is located at. I tell them there is no branch, it is a digital only bank and this clearly isn’t what they expected. Several minutes go by when I’m informed that they have now managed to update my Direct Debit details. I’m not at all hopeful until I see the evidence of the change in my Chase account. This is clearly a Vodafone issue.

Well to be fair, I wasn’t even presented in the app with some of the lines for setting up the direct debit. It just asked me for my name, account and sort code, no asking me where the branch is located or the address. This is why clearly, I couldn’t do it in app or on the web portal. By the time I got to chatbot and then a real CS person, I’d had enough.

So in short, this is actually Vodafone’s fault entirely, for not presenting a layout to accommodate all of the information required. Long live CHASE!!!

Anyone know of any plans by Chase to offer Joint Accounts?

Well I’m sure they’ll be plenty of customers who would like this, but I haven’t seen anything official from Chase as yet. They are after all, a new digital bank here in the U.K. still finding their feet and gauging what customers want. Personally, I’d like to see joint accounts, cheque imaging, mortgage lending etc, they are after all, a massive bank the other side of the Pond and I’d like to hope they’ll eventually smash the likes of Starling and Monzo by being more diverse.

Yeah, I feel like that’s the main problem with Monzo/Starling

They have the technology but not the cross-selling that gives a good deal across the whole portfolio

Ok, so it’s another page for the U.S arm of Chase, but surely, hopefully, Chase will offer a similar portfolio of products here in the U.K including mortgages:

The closing guarantee might make it here but I doubt 3% down payment will. At least one of those I believe is government backed too

There are so many differences in terms of regulation and market expectation that I doubt their local offer would bear any resemblance at all to their US offer.

(Same is true for current accounts by the way.)

In terms of joint accounts, there was a survey a couple of weeks ago around just that.

So it’s currently been worked on in my opinion

It would be good if they could launch joint accounts soon. My Wife and I were going to open a joint account with Starling, but that has for us, fallen very much by the wayside. We are both Starling account holders but both of us rarely use our Starling current accounts since Chase opened up. If Chase can crack out joint accounts, we’ll apply.

My only other wish apart from previously mentioned further back in the thread, would be ‘nearby payments’. We’ve found that really useful with Starling, so if Chase could manage that as well, that would be a winner too in my eyes.

They’re doing something else that will cover the same use cases. Feels like a bit of a reinvention to the whole joint banking paradigm which I loathe, so I’m quite excited for their take.

Not sure I see the point of the nearby payments thing. Monzo have something like that. Tried it once. It’s a gimmick, fiddly to setup and get working, and not nearly as efficient as the old fashioned way. Both of you need to be there and have the app open. Just send a transfer! Arrives just as quickly and you don’t need to hassle the recipient.

Nearby payments removes the need for the payee to provide their account details, which some people are wary of doing.
