Fraud Scams etc

Time to shut my site down before they get me!

I get these somewhat often, same with HSBC scams

I’ve taken to texting back “I don’t even have a HSBC account you pillock” recently

These scammers are definitely pillocks and a whole lot more, but still, people are gullible and will fall for them.

Interesting that I just saw that news article. I have the Royal Mail iOS app which once you’ve downloaded and signed up to, any tracked parcel that is sent to you, you get a notification anyway. I find it really quite useful and the app has got much better recently.

I will switch to any Android dialler that can achieve this! (reccomendation(s) welcome, please!)

Does this work for you?

How to block unknown calls on your Android

  1. Tap the phone icon on your Android, which is usually at the bottom of the home screen.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top of the Phone app screen.
  3. Tap “Settings” in the dropdown menu.
  4. Tap “Block numbers” and then toggle the button beside “Block unknown callers” to green.

You STAR! (I just upgraded to Android 11 and don’t remember having seen this option before so didn’t think to look for it again!?)

Thanks @RB51 <3

There goes selling a 99p app that blocks unknown callers :sob::sob:

I’m on Android 10 on a Nokia 7.2 and I don’t have that option. To be fair, I only use the phone as a work/burner phone because it’s dual sim.

Would explain why I never saw this option a week or so ago when I was actively searching for it!

No sign Android 10 on Huawei either.

Clearly an 11 thing.

Can’t wait for us to get this!

The call reason, or the features from Google’s dialer?

The call being verified so you know it’s definitely from who it’s meant to be and that you get a reason for the call in advance of answering.

From a Netherlands email address : [email protected]

Some great English in there too!

Don’t all rush at one

Me and the Wife, we’ve been in stitches today. She’s received two phone calls that went straight to her voicemail claiming to be from HMRC. She’s been threatened with Court, warrant for arrest, advised to get a lawer etc, it’s so funny listening to the crock of crap. Then at the end of the call, they wish her well. It’s made our Friday if we’re honest

I also received a call from ‘HMRC’ today that I ignored. The scams seems to go out in waves.

Details on how to report them is here Avoid and report internet scams and phishing: Report HMRC phishing emails, texts and phone call scams - GOV.UK

(It does help)

Wife’s reported already.

This particular scam, they’ve just tried too hard to make it sound like they know what they’re talking about. There’s that old acronym KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid, they’ve failed spectacularly on that point. Oh well, some poor gullible soul out there will fall for it, which is a huge shame.

I don’t answer calls from unrecognised numbers, so I miss out on this Friday Crackerjack.

Probably still in their apprenticeship :man_facepalming:

My missus because of her job, can’t keep her phone on silence unknown callers, so the phone rings and she ignores it and lets it go to voicemail. Most of the scammers never bother leaving a message but the odd moron like this particular scammer, does so because they know some poor soul will fall for their pathetic threats. I never answer my own phone unless the number is in my contacts list.
