They have overturned the account closure and allowed me to keep the sortcode and branch I have selected but said that they closed the account because the branch was on the other side of the country as my home address and it didn’t match up to my previous accounts with them.
I also have to wait for the second card to be delivered not the first one as it was cancelled instantly

Oh no! That’s terrible and quite scary – but I don’t suppose they have any reason to add any sort of fraud loading?
do you have any other active products with them?
I just had another look on the RBS website and according to their branch finder the closest branches to me are the London ones so I’m hoping I’ll be fine! Remains to be seen!
@anon62610374 do let us know how you get on!

I don’t have any products with them. And everything is sorted now and they apologised for inconveniencing me aswell.
Edit: Just be careful. I reckon they will investigate this link now

Uh oh! I’m about as on the other side of the country as one could possibly get!

Odd! But it’s got me quite nervous about the whole thing!

Luckily for me I have an offer from a London university
and a friend over there
Regardless, I don’t think they care too much in my case

It’ll be interesting to see how the next few days/weeks play out.
I’ll be avoiding putting money in the account for the time being and will keep an eye on my emails. I think I have reasonable grounds for explaining why I chose this branch but less so if they ask about the link!
Perhaps it’s time to take the link down from this forum?

I recommend removing the link. Just be weary. She sounded pissed off on the phone. Just my opinion though. She wanted to ban me I think hahah

If folks want the link removed and a mod would be obliged to it, that’s fine with me! though it is also out there on MSE now too!
I would edit the posts, but edits seem to persist on here and can be viewed by anyone who clicks the edit link.

It will probably also depend on who you get on the phone.
But there’s no reason to suspect fraud, and it’s a link they should’ve taken down if they didn’t want it used. I’m just trying to calm myself down as I’m freaking out

I wonder how well I just wanted the cool card would fly as an excuse for opening the account at that branch?

I think if you delete the posts, they’ll disappear after 3 hours now (or 24 in a worst case scenario)
Not sure what to say about MSE though

I think I’ve removed all traces of it here, just in case. If I’ve missed any flag them please!
if any new folks want the link to try to get one of these accounts just PM me!

What number did they call you on? @JonasP
Just had a call from a London phone #
What number were you called on?
I don’t think @JonasP was called. Sounds like he received an email and he called them.
I don’t know who it is, so I’d rather not call back to find out and obviously I don’t know if it’s a place that yourselves wouldn’t know I had a relationship with etc, maybe it’s the university from London I applied to or something
try googling the number. If it belongs to a business it’ll likely show up. If not, possibly a spam call.

I dialed back and it said it was an incorrect number

Likely a spoofed number then for a spammer/scammer
