When I rang then to get my sort code and account no over the phone never had any issues. Not had any
Emails my nearest RBS is farnborough or Southampton now Reading is closed so don’t know if I will get called up.
Maybe I spoke to soon yesterday
What I’m thinking is – these accounts seem to have been approved after manual review given that we had to submit ID. So surely if they had an issue, they should’ve flagged during the process?

That’s word for word the same message I got the day after I’d been accepted for a NatWest current account recently. Are NatWest Group in the habit of changing their mind after they’ve accepted an account application?

I didn’t follow it up with them. This is what they originally said:
Thank you for your recent application for a Select account and your interest in banking with us.
After careful consideration, we are unable to take the application further and the account has now been closed. This letter supersedes all other communication you receive in relation to the account, including any debit cards which you may have already received.
Why your application has been declined
When we were processing your request, we carried out standard checks as described in the ‘Information’ section in the terms and conditions of the application. These checks are done with Credit Reference Agencies such as Equifax, Experian and Fraud Prevention Agencies such as CIFAS. Following these checks, we are unable to open an account for you.
We are unable to discuss any further rationale for this, and are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you would like to appeal this decision and have further information you would like us to consider, you can contact us via e-mail at [email protected]. Please provide the following details:
• Reference (can be found at the top of this e-mail)
• Date that you last checked your credit file
• Company used for credit file
• Date that you last checked CIFAS or other fraud agencies
• New information you would like us to consider that was not included in your application

I’d call them up. I just rang them and my accounts back open. I just had to explain why I chose my local branch in London when I live far north
Let me also add the bank closed my reason under: “Bank Decision - customer misconduct”
(This was about selecting a different branch). God only knows why I was picked out of the crowd
Where did you see that? Does it show up anywhere?
Are you able to provide a screenshot to show more the email, cropping out any personal details?

Ah, interesting that they tell you. The email @mirodo copied says they can’t discuss further. Oh well, I’ll just see what tomorrow (and next week) bring and hope for the best!
Yeah mine did too but i work in financial crime so i knew who to speak to so i could resolve it
Just done my ID checks. Let’s see if they report me for wanting a slightly different card!
The wait between the application and the request for ID makes me think there are humans reviewing these applications. If so, they should just deny the account instead of proceeding
