Savings Accounts

Seriously interested in sticking my savings into Ford Money Flexible saver. Clearly beats Chase rates and I would feel far more comfortable shoving my money into Ford rather than some slightly higher interest paying accounts that I’ve never even heard of.

If I remember rightly, I tentatively applied for something several years ago but didn’t see it through.

Well I’ve done it. Opened a Ford Money Flexible saver. Just need to wait for my Customer ID number.

Are Ford that more widely adopted than some of the other accounts banded about here?

That said I was in the same boat - earning mid 3% ish and didn’t care for quite a while - but now I’ve been implored to open Ybs for faux mortgage overpayments and Kroo for my non ISA emergency fund.

Pretty sure I’d have gone for established building societies over a car manufacturer, if I didn’t have accounts with all of them already, of course

:joy: That’ll be one of the world’s largest multi billion dollar car manufacturers that just happen to have a toe in the financial scene.

At the end of the day, it’s all personal choices and I’m happy to trust a name that’s been around for a few years.

Yeah. Like I said, I hold the account as well.

Ford Money have looked after my £1 quite well for a few months now

Even got 2p interest from them in the last tax year

I seem to remember that Northern Rock were a building society

To be fair, the difference in rates between the top paying easy access accounts, amounts to mere pennies on balances. I’m no rate chaser like many here, I only have one account with my savings all in one place, I’ve even closed the pathetic Santander account I had sitting in the background.

If I were fortunate to be incredibly wealthy as given off by some of the vibe here, I’d probably spread that wealth around. Good on those that put in the effort and time to maximise savings :+1:

Not at the point they toppled they weren’t… they were very much a bank doing ‘bad bank stuff’, and had been for a decade after demutualising in the late 90s. Same for Bradford & Bingley.

Ok, so today I’ve shifted half my savings out of Chase into Ford Money.

I got my Customer account number this morning. Opened the account with £1.00 just to make sure the transfer happened without any hitches.

It took almost 4 hours for a Faster Payment to be processed, something I found a little unerving. Anyway I then shifted a sizeable amount and I waited and I waited, again almost 4 hours before my Ford Money App showed the updated balance. I guess it’s jus something I’m going to have to get used to.

I’ll shift the rest out of Chase later. No qualms about moving my money out of Chase to Ford Money as the interest rate is clearly better.

Ford Money App, very very basic, but it does what I need it to do.

Yeah timescales for money movement are very different with Ford Money than you’d be used to with Chase.

I have a few accounts of that similar “slow” nature.

Some prevent withdrawals for first 14 days from account opening too (looking at you, Tesco, YBS).

Can’t remember if Ford fall into that category as opened mine long time ago, when they had market leading regular saver.

I reckon this might also be the case with Ford Money as I have no Move Money option available at this time and it’s the Flexible Saver. I’m not particularly bothered but if the option doesn’t show up within a couple of weeks, I’ll be enquiring why.

Tbf, I have never had an issue with Ford Money.

It’s just I have other accounts that reward me with more atm.

Just checked my app and “Move money” is clear at bottom of overview screen, just below balance. Hopefully, you’ll see the same soon.

How long will it take my deposit to arrive in my Ford Money account?

Your deposit should be visible within your Ford Money account within 4 hours. This applies to weekends and Bank Holidays. You will receive a text message to confirm the deposit has reached your account

Reference Move money sign, have you authenticated your nominated account, per

When you first open a Ford Money account with us you’ll need to first authenticate your Nominated Account before it can be used for transaction purposes.

How long do YBS payments in take again, 2 hours is it?

I definitely don’t have that option just yet, maybe because it’s because I’ve literally just opened the account today :person_shrugging:

Just read the other bit you referenced, it’s because I haven’t received anything in the post yet, so I haven’t actually had the code to officially nominate my bank account.

I didn’t receive any texts today either about the balance hitting the account. Seems I’ve been far too quick off the mark on everything :joy:

Yes, I saw the four hour window in the Ts&C’s but I didn’t think they actually meant it

I do hate waiting like that. It’s why I segregate my savings into a larger one where I don’t care if it takes time in & out and one that is literally instant

Depends on time of day, but I normally see them in my account within that time tbh.

And reference your later post, I have accounts the same, and with different withdrawal points too.
