I still have the app installed, but switched out in October. The option to rejoin is greyed out for me, as it recognises I have switched within 12 months.
Yes indeed, an odd business decision. On the other hand, I’ve yet to see Starling drop any real clangers in the current account arena, so I’m thinking it’s probably explained away very simply……… once someone explains it, of course
Maybe getting bought by someone? (nope, haven’t heard anything but that is another possible reason)
My gut is this is unplanned, and the app route was taken down pre-emptively because of something within it which was felt to be a risk.
They’re advertising on Amazon Freevee (and probably other places I don’t see their adverts) which is strange behaviour for a business that actually doesn’t want new custom. Opening an alternative (and not very Starling it has to be said) route to application also serves that point.
The only thing I can see on their website at the moment is this -
Just so you know, we’re not currently accepting applications for our additional GBP and multi-currency accounts.
I assume they’re accepting all other account types
Hear me out. I think I have an idea why.
-
Additional GBP accounts were only useful until they launched Virtual Cards. Now you can have DD’s and a Card linked to any space (so beit limited to 5).
-
The Multi-Currency could be baked into the main product. Multi-currency allowances, or Multi-currency spaces maybe?
This could be part of a natural development progress for Engine by Starling.
Where did you find that? I couldn’t find anything on the website.
It also doesn’t explain the case reported on the Monzo community where someone wanted to reopen an account and were given that same boiler plate response. Or why my brother also got that response as a brand new customer trying to sign up via the app when it got stuck.
The bit I copied (“Just so you know, we’re not currently accepting applications for our additional GBP and multi-currency accounts.”) is on the apply page in the footer.
My assumption is, I can’t see anywhere where they’re saying they’re not accepting new accounts, so I can only assume they are.
Maybe reading too much into it but they don’t have any multi currency accounts. They have GBP and EUR accounts.
Those were my thoughts, but I thought I was missing something.
My read on it in this context is that multi is used to reference the multiple available options (I believe they offer EUR and USD accounts) as opposed to an actual multi-currency account.
Maybe they’re launching one, but I doubt it. Starling hasn’t moved a muscle on that front in years.
It would be nice if they did a Wise cum HSBC Global Money thing.
I think you have a little unfortunate typo there!
Indeed ‘come’ would not be correct in this instance
Still not working for me here. On latest version of iOS and the Starling app.
Finally working for me now. Unfortunately only seems to allow me to connect one of either my joint or individual account and not both of them at the same time.
App development seems to had halted, all they do is post crappy tips in their changelogs.
Got me wondering if it’s time to adventure across the pond…
Moving to America to escape British bank stagnation! Impressive and shows dedication!
Hahaha
