Using Curve

Barclays folded bPay into PingIt (including the wearables) but then killed off PingIt in 2021.

bPay predated the Strong Customer Authentication rules coming in

You can now use Curve with Paypal credit.
I have received an email from Paypal saying so

Yes. And in a matter of moments I’ve linked PayPal to Curve. Whether I’ll use it is another matter. But there it is, another option. :slightly_smiling_face:

Has anyone else noticed the silence at Curve on X? Did they fire their social media handler who used to make jokes and at least have some engagement?

Hmmmm I know the community manager used to run their social media accounts. However the person that used to run both left shortly after the community closed.

Curve quietly removed the free tier just before my downgrade on June 3rd.
This page was updated on May 3rd 2024. I will probably just call it quits

Hmmm - I’m on the free tier and must assume I’ll be left alone. No one’s been in touch to demand I upgrade :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Probably grandfathered.
I will see what they have for me when I reach out to downgrade.

What’s with the charging 1% for a range of transactions? Some look like things I use It for e.g. topping up Revolut and the ISA.

If free is gone, I will be gone when my £1.99 black offer runs out in a month or so. Tried, but although the 1% on six plus rewards cleared a tenner a month by a reasonable amount, without the insurance, I’d just be lending them money only for them to give it back a bit later.

The free tier is still there but you have to pay £5.99 for the physical card. No monthly fee.

Renamed Curve Lite.

Another organisation who thinks that making the original free offer (almost) unusable means we will upgrade…

I did. I upgraded to using the original cards and ditched Curve

I’m confident that a ploy like that has little going for it, as users will gradually find Curve less and less useful - and do what @Breezy suggests.

I just don’t see the advantages in going from free to black. Yes, handy to add all your cards rather than just three (but if you’ve already added them and drop down to free, they let you keep them). The 1% on six would (for me) pay the tenner fee. More free international use is potentially handy but then my underlying cards don’t charge anyway whereas Curve charges at the weekend. Longer gbit would theoretically be useful but I’ve never gone back more than a month anyway. The free ATM withdrawals would be handy for some but then my underlying cards are free anyway.

Metal. Who needs 12 retailers? Tried it and the extra six were very marginal benefit. Lounge access but then it’s £24 and I get It for £21.

Your points are well made, here and further up. The reality is that if you work hard enough on a paid for plan, you can cover your fee. But it’s never by a big enough margin to make it a winner.

Who needs more than three cards in the Curve wallet? In practice, my main card usage is never more than that even though I thought it would be at the outset.

Curve is innovative, but the more complex you make it, the more redundant much of it becomes.

The merchant thing sounds good but again, the returns are often much more conservative than you expected.

I’m sticking with the “Lite” version, thankyou very much :relieved:

Just noticed that I’ve reached the end of the black for £1.99 so downgrade request in.

For me it was OK to pay the £180 for metal when they had insurance as the cashback always covered the fee and so the insurance was free. Minus the insurance, essentially I’m just lending them £180 and they’re giving it back to me at £15/month.

Where were you spending £1k plus a month to get £10 cashback?

When I had metal I didn’t have the supermarkets as my cashback retailers as it’s easy enough to get 3/4/5% discount on gift cards.

The majority of the money came from the supermarkets, Amazon and JustEat.

I know I should do the gift cards for the supermarkets but I’m not that organised yet.

There’s also the occasional cashback boost e.g. the Morrisons 5% that’s just ending.

Worked out in total over £180/year usually.
