Who do you use as a main bank?

It’s the opposite for me. A much harder choice between Monzo and Chase.

Now if N26 were to return to the U.K., it would be dead easy.

N26 - we so nearly had it :smirk:

It’d need to feature-up somewhat, but I bet the card collectors would be all over the see-through offering !

Not sure if this helps the debate but I’ve been having a “high street” off having introduced TSB into the mix. Comparing it to RBS (my other high st acct bar the departing Coop) I have to say, I think they’re lagging behind, despite the nicer branding it feels a lot clunkier.

I agree 100%! I can’t comment further because any dissent is ‘reported to the admins’, primary school style.

Nothing actually needs reporting to the admins - they are active users and can make their own decisions, which I think they do very reasonably.

The comment above is a completely irrelevant sh1t stir :joy:

Ooof now that is an interesting one.

If I could only have one individual account, I guess the most lucrative is my Santander 123 Lite (£6 or £7 net per month).

If I could have as many accounts as I want with one lender, I guess it’d be Halifax (£5 x 3 per month).

If you’d asked me a few months ago I’d have probably said Lloyds because I valued having a branch on the little high street nearby, but that’s gone now.

I really don’t know, glad I don’t have to decide.

Given that I only had one current account for the vast majority of my working life, this wouldn’t be a problem and I’d choose HSBC.

I’d still make use of credit cards for day to day spending and savings accounts.

Now that’s an intriguing one……

After much soul-searching, I’ve gone for Starling. It’s unexciting I know, but I regard it as dependable with the added bonus of the built-in euro account.

Darn - I had to go look……:flushed:

Something I knew I would never make use of as I seldom visit continental Europe anymore. As long as I have a fee free debit card for use abroad, that’s the important thing for me.

I would also choose Santander 123 lite or 3x Halifax.

But how about if you take rewards out of the equation? Then you are choosing an account based on the functionality, app/online banking UI, customer service etc

I would probably choose Starling.

Hmmm. I feel like I’m comtemplating a banking world which I’d have almost no enthusiasm for… but yeah I guess Starling is a fine choice. I’d say Natwest (or RBS) were it not for their awful implementation of DDs, or Lloyds were it not for their reputation for closing accounts down summarily.

It’s a very different proposition when you remove the add-ons. Stripping the ask back to basics, a number of highly-regarded banks fall by the wayside. As @WillPS says, it’s not a proposition I’d fancy.

But good to ponder, nonetheless.

Ok, so there’s no instant notifications of any kind with TSB, but I can still cash a cheque through their App if I needed to.

I thought my previous Lloyds account was pretty good but I don’t miss them.

I feel it is a basic, but it is improved from 2020. Still a few nasties under the hood (separate pending payments, ugly text etc)

and no pending transactions for credit card transactions whatsoever. which is just bizarre as they have it for debit…
