Because it’s such a piss poor amount it’s just hardly worth the effort. Indeed I have no idea why Starling bother. I mean come on! less than 2 quid a year in interest, that’s about the price of a pasty in a local convenience store!
And actually, I do have a Tesco Clubcard and I do save a considerable amount of money using it. I bought a litre of a very good Scotch single malt a couple of weeks back which usually retails for £40 and which I got on clubcard price for £22, and for a litre, that’s a good price!
And I thought mine was bad at 35p
Fully agree with you, I don’t know how much Starling actually pay out in total, but surely it could be better used.
Well, with much respect and of course it’s none of my business, but to get 35p in interest in a month from Starling, you must be pushing a whopping amount of dosh through that account. As I say, I keep a running balance of £3k plus in my Starling current account and 12p a month is about average.
TBF, it was set up as our travel account, with the main balance being our travel spending money, with a separate space for the actual travel expenditure.
Even though it is still funded every week (as it has been ever since it was opened) with how things have been over the last 2 years, we haven’t spent anywhere near as much a we normally do, and the balance has grown quite substantially.
they should donate it all to me
35p in interest in Starling is crazy, thought my balance was relatively okay and I only got 14p
What’s more crazy if I can deflect to First Direct here for a moment, is that FD won’t even consider me for the ‘free’ £250 overdraft because it seems I’m not eligible You should see the balance currently sat in the account, it amounts to about 4 months wages and I don’t meet their criteria. Perhaps they won’t pay me the £150 switch bonus because there’s too much dosh sat in there
And I was accepted for a 4 figure overdraft with Starling at their lowest rate
Something I have never used either.
You couldn’t make this up at times lol
I’ve never requested an overdraft from Starling, indeed I don’t have any overdraft facilities with any of the four banks I’m a customer of. The fact that FD rated me as ineligible from the off by not accepting me for their overdraft is just purile in my opinion, but then the banks algorithms are a secret science anyway. I’m not bothered, after all, I’m just using FD for the switch bonus.
Never a more true word said.
I have absolutely no idea how they have come up with my overdraft limits, or in respect of credit cards, credit limits.
Yes, I expected credit to become more difficult to obtain when I took early retirement this time last year but my “scores” are unchanged and I’m being offered large overdrafts on all 3 current accounts (Starling, Monzo and HSBC).
They also want to pick out people who will use the facility…
Which is why I suspect I will never meet their criteria.
I was declined for Zilch the other day - looking to do a £10 referral as I’ve been getting into the “beermoneyuk” sub reddit. I have 5 figure credit cards utilised within no more than 5pc of their limits and was approved for a mortgage in the last year, go figure perhaps I was identified as non profitable.
And probably the reason why M&S credit card (aka HSBC) only gave me a £1k credit limit on my new card because they probably guessed they’ll never make a penny in interest off me. Amex, £10k no issues.
As for the M&S credit card, well I’ve resorted to using it just to pay for private dental treatment
Annoying that you can’t pay on cheques at the post office
Useful release notes today on iOS. And looks like they’re using feature flags to deploy this update gradually.
Starling seem really carefully when sending certain types of payments it seems. The details they asked for … and now it’s pending review
Also what’s up with banks still not supporting CoP?
If they don’t process it in a couple of hours I’ll have to cancel it and use another bank
