You got in there just before me ![]()
After that android developer at starling said they couldn’t do a swipe up menu because of Android fragmentation I lost all faith in them
It’s just been one blunder after another 🤷
Aside from the Starling Android app which I don’t use although I could as I also run a Nokia 7.2, I’ve been reading some of the most recent reviews on the iOS app store.
It seems to me, that some reviewers just basically use the review section to slag off a developer without giving any proper qualified reasons for doing so. Single word reviews like ‘Crap’, ‘Rubbish’, ‘Pathetic’ etc. Clearly people who either have no idea how to use the app in question, or have some other non sensical reason for leaving a one star single word review.
I realise you can’t please all of the customers all of the time, but when you read some of the reviews, it does make you wonder whether app only banking is at all suitable for some people. One review moans about being informed by Starling to keep their iOS up to date. The reviewer complains they have no idea what ‘iOS’ is, and yet they’re clearly using an Apple device and have somehow managed to download apps etc. Or ‘I’m elderly and I don’t know what you’re on about’ and yet again, they’ve managed to set themselves up with a smart device already. Weird if you ask me!
And of course there’s the usual moans from people who seem to frequently need to contact their bank on an almost daily/weekly/monthly basis about how long it takes someone to get back to them when they have a problem. The review almost always ends with something like, ‘You’re crap and I’m going back to a High Street branch’. Well good I say, bugger off back to your High Street branch and leave those of us who know what digital app only banking entails and the benefits it offers over some legacy banks.
Oh you have really smacked onto one my pet hates. People using the app review store to review the company and not the app. More importantly taking very little responsibility for their own device.
When Apple moves the iOS minimum support threshold it means developers have to move along too, updating to only support a limited number of devices. Some people have an entitlement that they think their 6-7 year old device should have a bespoke level of IT support.
I seen a review for HSBC, where during the summer a reviewer complained that HSBC’s app would not work on on the iOS 15 beta. Think of the mental gymnastics that person went through to opt into the beta, agree to the T’s and C’s that explained that app compatibility would not be guaranteed and then to complain that an app was not compatible.
The worst are people who review, for example, the hotels.com app to review the hotel they stayed at.
Just had to log in by sending the damn video of my face. It’s ironic really, considering they still don’t support face unlock on my Pixel 4
I think Google has decided face unlock is dead on android
Wouldn’t be an issue if they were using the normal biometric libraries
Isn’t it coming back on the Pixel 6?
I think early rumours suggested it but it doesn’t look like there’s the IR camera or array on the Pixel 6.
Starling is seriously winding me up now.
I got an SMS with a password and an email at the same time telling me to download some file from starling - no indication of what or why.
I’m not happy just clicking a link in an email, so messaged in the app to check it’s genuine.
Wait time is reported as an hour. No problem, no hurry.
Half an hour passes and they reply for more info, then close the chat almost straight away! Wtf
I can’t add to existing chat, so have started a new one.
Also turns out the update has somehow broken starling notifications on my phone - the settings all look OK/unchanged, but no notifications are arriving. So I’ll probably miss the next CS message too and the thread will be closed again…
Something is definitely awry
Edit: second chat got back to me and said it can’t be genuine, as - according to the agent - everything comes through the app. I copied over the messages, then “on second thought”, CS decided it was all genuine. How very reassuring…
Their Android development team really doesn’t seem up to par with iOS.
I bet Anne uses an iPhone!
Apparently not but it’s hard to know for sure yet.
Glad it’s not my main account!
It’s shocking how almost all banks get such basic stuff so wrong.
Reminds me of this thread I saw the other day:
There’s also a matching update for iOS, complete with Eiffel Tower commentary.
Someone somewhere is surely feeding back how amusing those app update remarks are. Well someone is…… ![]()
This is realllyyyy interesting
Looks good!
But it’s funny how the card mock ups at the top of the page look a million times better than their own cards
