The card design thread

First Direct and HSBC between them do have all of this, so presumably it will eventually come to M&S as well.

M&S does seem very low priority at the group in general though, so I wouldn’t expect any improvements to be necessarily quick!

HSBC doesn’t have pending credit card transactions. I get a notification, but once you’ve cleared this there’s no further trace of the transaction until two or three days later when it appears on the transaction history.

That’s a weird one, when they do provide details of pending on their debit card.

I wonder why the difference.

Yes, sorry @RSheff!

I didn’t have a credit card with them to be sure, but assumed they did given it’s available for debit cards.

Clearly not true as @Breezy indicates, although the First Direct Mastecard debit cards do have proper details for their pending transactions too, so now they’ve implemented support for that for a Mastercard of some type it may be easier to do for all HSBC credit cards?

I would think that HSBC credit cards being a bizarre mix of some Mastercard and others Visa may have been why they haven’t provided the feature to date?

However the John Lewis Partnership credit card does show pending transactions. The JLP card is issued by John Lewis Financial services which is a subsidiary of HSBC UK.

Interesting, although John Lewis Finance seem to use different IT (despite being owned and operated by HSBC).

Not sure where to post this, but Amex also started adopting the new iOS design on their home screen. Also have a swanky new font:

Update on HSBC Apple Pay.

Just re-added my card and the design has changed, obviously it’s not portrait - and not matching the card itself, but i quite like the card now!

The Apple Pay image is better than the actual card. The HSBC logo fits a horizontal card better than a vertical one.

I still prefer the lions, though.

Just seen the card for the new lloyds kids account. I quite like it, although i do like their current cards.

Gutted i’m too old to get it :unamused:

They’ve managed to fit the horse (a pretty landscape-friendly image) into the portrait design well.

It looks clean and modern; I like it!

Will be interesting to see if they’ll redesign the entire line up of cards.

Although i think the Halifax could do with the redesign first!

So because i’ve got way too much time on my hands, i’ve found the Bank of Scotland equivalent to the Halifax and Lloyds new kids cards. At least this one doesn’t have the logo twice (although the Halfax card isn’t awful).

But i think the Lloyds one wins!

I agree 100%

Yes they have, they’ve succeeded where HSBC have failed miserably.

Since when did HSBC use a horse as their logo?

Yes, I quite like the use of the left side for the Lloyds Bank text.

It avoids the card looking wonky, with everything at the top and the rest being long and empty (which is something I think the HSBC cards do suffer from a bit).

They didn’t, but they’ve squashed a horizontal logo onto a vertical card and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
The Lloyds design is vastly better than HSBC’s effort.

It was a tongue in cheek post

Sorry if it flew over your head.

I know what you mean though in relation to the HSBC “let’s cram it in” approach.

They should have kept the lion’s head. Would have looked way cooler imo

Definitely. The first post in this thread shows HSBC did it successfully on their card design in Hong Kong, so I don’t know why they haven’t done the same here too.
