The card design thread

Affirms my belief HSBC probably had the best designed cards and have canned it for whatever garbage they’ve got now

I think the Premier cards look great!

I have one of these on order.

How’d you get that version?

It’s available in the app (limited edition), for a charge of £4.50.

Details here: So green, it’s white. - Wise, formerly TransferWise

Edit: it appears to be £4.50 for Wise customers who have ordered a card previously, £9 for those who haven’t, or new customers.

That’s nice. What do you use wise for. Is it worth getting or having

Good for spending in foreign currency, but possibly redundant if you already have a card with no FX charges (e.g. Starling).

I haven’t used it much to be honest, but considering doing so as a separate place for my work expenses spending.

You don’t have to order a card when you open an account, and it’s a soft credit check only, so no harm in opening one and seeing if it’ll be of any use to you.

How does it shape up compared to Revolut?

As a purely FX account, I think Wise is marginally better as they allow you to hold money in more currencies, plus their FX fees are slightly lower (at least if you’re comparing their free offering with Revolut’s free offering). If you want more stuff like crypto and pots/spaces/whateveryoucallthem, Rev is better). Plenty of comparison reviews out there if you’re trying to choose between them.

I’ve used Revolut for years - been a bit miffed with some of their CS recently, thanks for the feedback!

Sterling’s teal colour is butt-ugly, preferred the purple tbh. Monzo Card is just plain hideous.

Are there other banks like Revolut where you can change card designs online?

Barclays?

Algbra have a selection of three colours to choose from.

Not sure on any others. None really have a selection of styles quite like Revolut do. Barclays will let you upload your own photo but it’s not really the same thing.

As for adding things like Emojis, there’s only really the cash app card in the US, which started that trend with custom engravings.

what a poor rebrand all around lol

Having managed to open a nationwide flexdirect account, my debit card arrived yesterday and I was surprised it was the old design with old logo. Maybe mine was the last old one!

It looks nicer than starlings card but the new rebrand is not everyone’s cup of tea. Banking wise their flex plus account is still unbeatable if you need breakdown or are not single and have family at home.

Debit card is the one thing about the rebrand which is definitely better overall I reckon. The old design was so busy.

Asterisk on the “unbeatable”. For single people, Virgin Money’s is probably better

But, for families, you’re probably right. I guess maybe Halifax if you need the home emergency cover but… to be honest, I’ve heard home emergency cover people are very eh about fulfilling claims. Know a guy who got his rejected when his sink broke because they had another one upstairs lol
