The card design thread

Whenever they do update it (if they update it), you won’t know unless you delete and re-add the card.

Forgot about that :man_facepalming:. I guess it’ll be a matter of removing and re-adding the card every so often…

I messaged HSBC on twitter regarding the card design on Apple Pay. The agent seems under the impression it will change with the next app update (?). And they’ve told me to contact apple….

I’m guessing the customer service staff don’t get told this information :man_shrugging:

To be fair, I doubt expect 99.9% of bank customers don’t care.

You’d be better off asking the Corporate Comms team who have put out the press releases for it, rather than customer services, which for HSBC is staffed in India.

So they all care?

Fixed. Pedants untie!

Just feeling particularly pedantic today… perhaps it’s the weather :upside_down_face:

Their customer services is based in many countries including the UK, India, USA, Malta and the Philippines.

Regardless of the location, I doubt they are trained on when the “card design on Apple Pay” will change. I doubt the CS staff from any bank could accurately answer that question.

HSBC UK have said they are planning a revamp of their app, so I imagine that’s what CS was thinking of.

I haven’t heard about the plans to update the app? Has this been put out in a press release?

No idea. I received a notification logging onto the app
sometime ago, that if I wanted to get early access, I could register on https://customerstudio.hsbc.co.uk/

It’s a minor annoyance to me, but I have a low-rate 3.9% credit card from Tesco Bank where the physical card is silver with the strawberry design on it, however this is what I see in Apple Pay wallet:

:man_shrugging:

Feels like a redesign could’ve happened?

Or they just couldn’t be bothered to design an Apple Pay image :joy:

I’m sure that I originally had the strawberry design on my Club Card credit card in the Apple Wallet but I’ve just checked and it’s the same as yours now.

Tesco changed the design to this blue a year or so ago. I prefer the new blue compared the dated strawberry design.

I’m certainly not disagreeing, but I would prefer the mobile wallet graphic to match the physical card design.

That’s not possible afaik, unless Tesco (or any bank) start issuing new design cards with different BINs

The technology is clearly out there to enable this. Earlier in the year I upgraded my American Express card over the phone. Within two hours new artwork appeared in Apple Pay wallet without me doing anything, and a new physical card was on the doormat two days later.

Only the last two digits of the PAN changed. The BIN did not.

I’ve been a member of customer studio for some time, and received an email which mentioned it in passing and said “as a member of customer studio, you will see this change first” or words to that effect.

Recent tasks on the customer studio have also featured screenshots which show an updated design; the new app seems likely to have a dashboard/homepage on first login and also some kind of money insights page which also showcases the features of your specific account.

Aren’t Tesco winding down most of their banking operations though?

Do you have a copy of these screenshots? I’m really intrigued by this now :eyes:

Hoping HSBC do a decent app this time, although the current one is brilliant compared to it’s predecessor!
