Using Revolut as a full account

Card or transfer?

This was with a card.

Whenever I’ve had a declined payment it usually allows me to say it was genuine - is that not being responsive?

Have you given it another go?

Correct

Yes, a couple of times. It always gets blocked.

Throw a complaint in - they usually cough up a few free months on a premium plan or a few quid to shut you up

Also - try a virtual or physical card (such as a visa) different to your main card

Never had an issue with this - so shame that you are facing one

For a number of reasons, many of which have been aired here, Revolut just doesn’t stack up as a primary current account.

For me - the main reason is to do with Direct Debits. I’ve had issues resetting Direct Debits with the same merchant - also once with a Direct Debit under Ā£1. Nip these issues in the bud (they claim they will with a banking license - but never had any issues doing either with Dozens…) and I’d move the salary over. I haven’t as I’m stuck paying some direct debits from another account. I do like Dozens but if Rev got the banking license I’d probably switch over - but I’d need the DD issue resolved in tandem!

I already move Ā£1000s through it per month (rent, some bills) - but certain DDs have to be paid elsewhere presently…

I used a virtual initially. Also tried a disposable.

I don’t mind the odd transaction getting blocked - it’s par for the course. But continuing to block something when you’ve reviewed and confirmed it is just ridiculous. Never had an issue like this anywhere else.

And then customer service has just been useless… And the app has been buggy too with certain screens not loading.

Massive palaver!

When I had Direct Debit issues the support was atrocious I must say. That’s more with their external payment processing I suppose, but they lost me as a salaried customer just as I was about to initiate it. They just couldn’t resolve it and their excuses were not in line with industry standards. I’ve never had issues with bugs in the app.

Edit - I did have a buggy reward page once.

And one thing I don’t need in a current account is that :point_up_2:t4: !!

The inevitable has happened and Revolut is discontinuing all credit card topups from 8 July

How long do you think Debit Card top ups will last?

In the past I’ve topped up by card and ended up transferring money elsewhere - how can this be of any use to them?

They’re cheaper and don’t come with nearly the same problems, so I imagine Revolut will keep them for a while yet. Credit card topups were always unsustainable - can’t see how they could become a bank while still offering them

I’ve moved my salary over to Revolut - huzzah. It has been over 12 months since and funds were held - one of which took 5 minutes so if there is a check I hope it’s akin to that. Salary is currently paid into Dozens, which I’ll still keep going and use for some things - but I didn’t want to have to move things if they came a cropper. Reassurances on a forum only go so far and I’ve gone with a bigger fish.

After a big month of spending it’ll be nice to have the pay a day early - and Revolut didn’t fail me once on a long distance trip with decent sums involved. Revolut Metal also paid for itself being cheaper than my travel insurance quotes. I don’t just use it for travel, rent and all utilities in the UK go out from there - a solid proportion of my spend too.

My average balance is over Ā£100 this month and similar in most prior this month I’ve had 2k in and 3k out - I’ve had 4 figures in a vault before. My salary is less than all of these 2k (unfortunately lol)

Shouldn’t scream money laundering…so I’m hoping for a smooth transition next Monday - once done it’ll really streamline my finances as presently I have to move money over to Revolut each month

Oooh bank logos have been added to payees on iOS

I wouldn’t personally use it as my main account, don’t they charge atm, exchange fees, and many others? Been with Starling for years, and have no complaints, best for travelling as well.

Exchange fees over 1k - cash over Ā£200. Per month. That’s for a standard user.

Neither of which I would tend to do more of in a month - but I’m on Metal as it paid for itself with one trip insurance wise.

Travel wise, with Starling you’re a rate taker no matter the foreign currency - with Revolut you can convert in advance with some currencies - can make a two figure difference.

Just wanted to revisit this thread jus to see how anyone who is using Revolut is getting on.

Ideally it would be good to know:

How is Revolut handling Direct Debits?
How does Revolut handle incoming Salary?
